Ralston (0-1) was charged with a blown save and the loss Monday against the Diamondbacks. He allowed one run on a hit with no walks or strikeouts over one-third of an inning.
After Pete Fairbanks exited with an apparent injury after facing just one batter, Ralston was unexpectedly thrust into action in the ninth inning and faltered, surrendering a walk-off two-run homer to Corbin Carroll. Monday marked Ralston's first big-league save opportunity. Since making his debut Aug. 23, the right-hander has posted a 4.22 ERA, 1.22 WHIP and 9:5 K:BB across 10.2 frames. Fairbanks' injury could open the door for other Marlins relievers to receive looks at closer, though Calvin Faucher and Michael Petersen are much more likely than Ralston to factor into the ninth-inning mix.

The Marlins recalled Ralston from Triple-A Jacksonville on Sunday.
The right-hander was added to Miami's 40-man roster in early August, and he's now on the cusp of making his major-league debut. Ralston has enjoyed a strong season for the Jumbo Shrimp with a 2.04 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 76:30 K:BB across 61.2 innings out of the bullpen.

Marlins' Jack Ralston: Added to 40-man roster, optioned

The Marlins selected Ralston's contract on Tuesday and optioned him to Triple-A Jacksonville, Kevin Barral of FishonFirst.com reports.
Ralston earned a spot on the 40-man roster after posting a 1.31 ERA and 70:26 K:BB over 55 frames. The 28-year-old will remain in Jacksonville for now, but he could get an opportunity with the big club before the end of the season.
