Adam Morrison has had a number of second chances. His training camp invite with the Trail Blazers might be his ninth life.

The former No. 3 overall pick has gone from disappointment and injury with the Charlotte Bobcats, to the end of the bench and two rings with the Lakers, to a training camp invite with the Wizards, to overseas and then finally back to the NBA where he played for the Clippers in Summer League, and now he has caught on with the Blazers.

As you might imagine, Morrison is tired of it all. So much that if he doesn't make Portland's final 15-man roster, he's going to hang it all up. Via CSNNW.com:

“I’m going to finish school and start coaching (If he doesn’t make the Trail Blazers roster) … I did the Europe thing and it just wasn’t for me,” Morrison told CSNNW.com. “Not saying the (Europe) culture or anything like that, (or) the people, it just wasn’t for me. So, yeah, if it doesn’t work out, I’m willing to look myself in the mirror and say, ‘I gave it a honest shot’ and turn the page. Do something else.”

Morrison, 28, is running out of chances. Once your reputation in the league gets soiled, it's hard to break through again. But with the way Morrison impressed in Las Vegas during Summer League, averaging around 20 points a game and the fact the Trail Blazers could use him after Elliot Williams' injury, Morrison actually has decent odds.

The struggle for Morrison always has been on the defensive end. He definitely can shoot and score. If he can just improve defensively. That's been the book on Morrison for some time now and he's never been able to justify playing time. But he has a shot not only to make the Trail Blazers, but to stick around a while.

Morrison is trying, and he's to be commended for it. He knows his limitations, he understands his situation. The Trail Blazers are about as good a chance as he's got left to make an NBA roster and if he doesn't, it probably is indeed time to have a long hard look at retiring.
