One more body for the backcourt.
The Los Angeles Clippers acquired veteran guard Willie Green from the Atlanta Hawks in exchange for the draft rights to Greek center Sofoklis Schortsanitis.
Green, 31, has spent a 9-year NBA career with the Philadelphia 76ers, New Orleans Hornets and the Atlanta Hawks. He was an unrestricted free agent following the 2011-12 season and moves in a sign-and-trade agreement that nets the Hawks a trade exception.
The addition continues a busy summer for the Clippers, who have re-signed guard Chauncey Billups, signed free agent guard Jamal Crawford, signed free agent forward Grant Hill and traded for forward Lamar Odom.
Green holds career averages of 9.1 points, 1.9 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game. He's been used primarily as a reserve scoring guard over the last four seasons and will join a backcourt that also includes All-Star point guard Chris Paul and the up-and-coming Eric Bledsoe. On paper, it looks as if he will serve as the rotation's fourth guard until Billups returns from a long-term Achilles injury.
Schortsanitis was a 2003 NBA Draft pick and has not played in the NBA.
