Birdman has a nest.
The Heat announced Sunday they have signed veteran forward Chris "Birdman" Andersen to a 10-day, minimum contract. Andersen has been working out in Miami for the Heat, who took their sweet time in cementing a gig for the former Nugget.
Andersen had come under legal scrutiny due to an investigation in Douglas County, Colo., and the case is still pending. Andersen's attorney recently informed The Denver Post that Andersen's case revolves around a young woman who presented herself as of-age over the Internet.
The Heat have been in need of more size, as their commitment to small-ball has wavered recently given their defensive lapses. The common thought is the team needs more size.
Whether Andersen can help that on any meaningful level is still to be examined, with Joel Anthony still getting the majority of minutes when the Heat go to more traditional lineups, and it's hard to see Miami being willing to sacrifice the offense Rashard Lewis and Shane Battier provide.
But Andersen's on a 10-day, so we'll see where we go from here.
