You know what would be news? If the Lakers decided not to exercise their team option on Andrew Bynum.
But that's not what happened via the Los Angeles Times. Bynum will have his team option exercised in one of the more obvious roster moves you're going to see.
"He's the starting center on the West All-Star team. Why wouldn't we do everything we could to keep him here?" Lakers General Manager Mitch Kupchak said. "We're ecstatic to have him on the team."
The option, which has to be exercised by June 30, is for $16.1 million. Following that, he'll become an unrestricted free agent unless the Lakers negotiate an extension for him between now and then.
Bynum, who hasn't missed a game yet this season, is having his best year as a pro. And at 24 years old, the Laker big man probably has his best time in front of him. On the season, Bynum is averaging 18.1 points and 12.9 rebounds per game.
