From ESPN.com:
Dallas Mavericks guard Delonte West has been suspended for conduct detrimental to the team, Mavs coach Rick Carlisle said.
Carlisle did not specify a timetable for West's suspension.
The suspension reportedly stems from an outburst in the locker room by West after a preseason game in which he played only 16 minutes and scored just 2 points with 2 assists. Because, you know, if there's one thing worth getting upset about, it's the preseason.
West hasn't played a huge role on the Mavericks and has had his fair share of ups and downs in his career. The temptation is to connect or assign this to his previously revealed bipolar disorder, but there's nothing about the condition that makes it impossible for him to control his behavior or act professionally.
And again... it's preseason.
The Mavericks have been patient with West, helping him find a house when he was sleeping in the locker room, sticking with him through some hard times. But at some point, they might need to move on from the Delonte West experiment.
West re-signed with the Mavericks in free agency early in July.
