The rebuild in Dallas continues.
Unrestricted free agent guard O.J. Mayo will sign with the Dallas Mavericks, according to a message posted on the player's verified Twitter account (@JuiceMayo32).
Mavericks owner Mark Cuban confirmed the signing on his Twitter accout (@mcuban).
"Welcome to the family OJ," Cuban wrote. "We are fired up!"
ESPNDallas.com confirms that the Mavericks have inked Mayo to a multi-year contract, although the terms are not yet known.
Mayo, 24, spent four seasons with the Memphis Grizzlies but the team opted not to extend him a qualifying offer this summer, allowing him to become an unrestricted free agent.
The No. 3 pick in the 2008 NBA Draft, Mayo was selected by the Minnesota Timberwolves and moved to the Grizzlies in a deal for All-Star guard Kevin Love. Mayo, a combo guard with good two-way ability, would join a new-look Dallas backcourt that lost veterans Jason Kidd and Jason Terry to the New York Knicks and Boston Celtics, respectively.
The Mavericks sign-and-traded big man Ian Mahinmi to the Indiana Pacers for guards Darren Collison and Dahntay Jones. They also claimed forward Elton Brand in the amnesty clause waiver pool.
The Grizzlies -- who have big-dollar commitments on their books for Marc Gasol, Rudy Gay, Zach Randolph and Mike Conley -- preemptively moved to replace Mayo by signing free agent guard Jerryd Bayless, whose qualifying offer was rescinded by the Toronto Raptors.
Mayo posted averages of 12.6 points, 3.2 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game for the Grizzlies last season.
