Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will be a free agent in July, and there have been indications for a while that the New York Knicks are planning to chase him. It's always appeared to be a long shot, though, and in March there was a report that Gasol had already ruled the Knicks out. While Gasol denied he had even thought about it, his Grizzlies teammate Beno Udrih told Bleacher Report's Jared Zwerling that he can't see Gasol going there:
Btw I recently asked B. Udrih (ex-Knick) to weigh M. Gasol to NY: "They're not going to get him. He's a laid-back guy & doesn't like drama."

Anything can happen in free agency, and superstars have certainly surprised everybody before. What Udrih's saying, though, is a big reason why it's hard to picture Gasol choosing New York. As well as the fact that the Knicks are far, far away from contending, there's a good reason for Gasol feeling comfortable in Memphis. He's not the type to court attention or market himself much, so the spotlight the Knicks would provide wouldn't necessarily appeal to him. Gasol has a good thing going with the Grizzlies, and he played high school basketball in Memphis. If he does decide to leave, it seems unlikely he'd leave for New York.
