Boston Celtics rookie center Fab Melo went crashing to the ground when a folding chair that he was sitting on collapsed underneath him. Melo had navigated the chair properly initially, as he took a seat between Cleveland Cavaliers center Tyler Zeller and Philadelphia 76ers forward Arnett Moultrie, but the chair eventually gave way, sending Melo sheepishly to the ground with it.
"I think the chair was too weak and an accident happened," Melo explained in an NBA.com video.
Melo, 22, was the No. 22 pick in June's NBA Draft. Originally from Brazil, Melo spent two years at Syracuse, where his weight fluctuated between 245 and 281 pounds, according to ESPN.com. Melo is now listed at 255 pounds and argued the chair didn't break because he was too fat.
"I lost weight, I'm good now," he said. "I know that I gained weight [before] but the chair fell off me."
His fellow rookies, of course, gathered around to laugh at his expense. Now is a good time to point out that Melo was named 2012's "funniest" rookie during an NBA.com class survey. With hijinks like this, who could possibly top him?
