Toronto Raptors guard Cory Joseph dropped Charlotte Hornets guard Brian Roberts to the floor with a crossover on Friday, and it deserves your attention. Sometimes, when a player "breaks someone's ankles," it's really just the defender tripping over somebody's foot or stumbling a little. This was not that. This was Joseph changing directions and stunning Roberts to the point where his body failed him and he fell.
Joseph is having a great season with his hometown Raptors after four seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. In Toronto, he's been able to show that he's not just a conservative point guard who gets other people the ball where they need it and plays solid defense. He can attack the paint with the best of them, and a big part of that is his ballhandling ability. If Roberts didn't know that before, he does now.
