Gasol officially announced his retirement from basketball Wednesday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Gasol spent 10 full seasons in Memphis to begin his NBA career before being traded to the Raptors during the 2018-19 season. He finished as the Grizzlies' franchise leader in field goals made, rebounds, blocked shots and minutes played en route to three All-Star nods, one All-NBA First Team selection (2014-15) and a Defensive Player of the Year award (2012-13). Gasol won an NBA championship in 2018-19 with the Raptors, who were led by Kawhi Leonard, Kyle Lowry and Pascal Siakam, and ended his NBA career with the Lakers before playing two years in Spain. Gasol was also a standout on the world stage, winning back-to-back Olympic Silver medals (2008 and 2012) while representing Spain with his brother, Pau Gasol.

Marc Gasol: Continuing career in Spain
Rotowire
Gasol announced Thursday that he will play for Spanish club Girona for the remainder of the season before deciding whether to retire, the Associated Press reports.
The 36-year-old most recently spent the 2020-21 campaign with the Lakers, averaging 5.0 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.1 blocks and 1.0 three-pointers in 19.1 minutes per contest over 52 appearances. He was traded to Memphis in September and later waived, but he didn't resurface elsewhere in the NBA prior to the start of the current season. At this stage, Gasol's days in the NBA may be over, but he apparently still wants to continue playing in the Spanish second division with Girona, the club he founded in 2014.

Marc Gasol: Waived by Memphis
Rotowire
Gasol was waived by the Grizzlies on Wednesday.
As expected, the Grizzlies took on Gasol's contract to ultimately waive him, and the veteran plans on signing a contract in the Spanish second division with the team that he owns, Girona. It's possible we've seen the last of Gasol in an NBA jersey, though a late-season return isn't out of the question for the 36-year-old. The center is the Grizzlies' all-time leader in win shares (77.4). While in Memphis, he made three All-Star games and averaged 15.2 points, 7.7 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.4 blocks. He also won Defensive Player of the Year in 2012-13 and secured a ring in 2019 with the Raptors.

Grizzlies' Marc Gasol: Traded to Memphis
Rotowire
The Lakers agreed to trade Marc Gasol -- along with a 2024 second-round pick and cash -- to the Grizzlies on Friday for draft rights to Wang Zhelin, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Wojnarowski reports that Gasol and the Grizzlies will work towards a waiver and release to allow him to remain in Spain with his family. The 36-year-old center's NBA career appears to be coming to an end, but he may look to continue playing basketball in Spain. In 13 seasons, Gasol accumulated two first team All-NBA nominations, three All-Star appearances and one Defensive Player of the Year award. He also won an NBA Championship with the Raptors during the 2018-19 campaign.

Lakers' Marc Gasol: Will play for Lakers this season
Rotowire
Gasol confirmed Tuesday that he will return to the Lakers and play a 13th NBA season, Brian Windhorst of ESPN reports.
Gasol remains under contract through 2021-22, but there was some thought that he could retire or continue his career back in his home country of Spain. However, after Spain fell to Team USA in Tokyo on Tuesday, Gasol told reporters that he will, in fact, come back to Los Angeles for one more season. Gasol will likely split minutes at center with Dwight Howard whenever Anthony Davis is resting or playing power forward.

Lakers' Marc Gasol: Expected to start in Game 6
Rotowire
Gasol is expected to start in Game 6 against the Suns on Thursday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
After he had come off the bench in every game in this series, the Lakers will move the veteran center into the starting lineup in a do-or-die situation in favor of Andre Drummond. In four games to start the series, Gasol has averaged 6.5 points on 66.7 percent shooting, 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.8 triples and 1.0 steal per game. Gasol could see an uptick in minutes from the 17.5 minutes per game he's averaged so far in the series.

Lakers' Marc Gasol: Impressive off bench
Rotowire
Gasol managed 12 points (4-6 FG, 3-5 3Pt, 1-2 FT), eight rebounds, three assists, three blocks and a steal across 23 minutes off the bench in Sunday's loss to the Suns.
Gasol has played at least 20 minutes in two of his three games since returning to the rotation, but he looked impressive in this one -- he posted his first double-digit scoring effort since May 3 and also outplayed Andre Drummond in several categories, including minutes, points and blocks. It remains to be seen what his role will be going forward, but Gasol has been making a case for more minutes, and Sunday's game was an excellent example of that.

Lakers' Marc Gasol: Plays 17 minutes off bench
Rotowire
Gasol had three points (1-1 3Pt), three rebounds, two assists and two steals in Thursday's Game 3 win over the Suns.
Gasol picked up a DNP-CD in Game 1, but he's been a key piece in the rotation for the Lakers' last two victories. Gasol drained his only field-goal attempt Thursday, and while he finished as a minus-11 in 17 minutes, his passing and basketball IQ are a welcomed sight for a Lakers team that's incredibly dependent on LeBron James for halfcourt playmaking.
