D.J. Augustin: Announces retirement
Augustin announced his retirement Sunday, ESPN.com reports.
Augustin was the No. 9 overall pick by the Charlotte Bobcats in 2008 and was named to the All-Rookie Second Team. He played for 10 different franchises over 14 seasons, holding career averages of 5.3 points and 1.6 assists per game. Augustin last played in the NBA during the 2021-22 campaign, when he made 55 total regular-season appearances split between the Lakers and Rockets.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Inks deal with Houston
The Rockets signed Augustin for the rest of the season Wednesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Augustin had recent stints with Houston in which he played 20 games for them in 2020-21 and 34 in 2021-22. However, the veteran point guard is unlikely to receive significant minutes as the rebuilding Rockets should give the majority of the opportunities to younger players like Josh Christopher, Daishen Nix and TyTy Washington.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Scores nine points Thursday
Augustin amassed nine points (3-4 FG, 3-4 3Pt), two rebounds and two assists over 20 minutes during Thursday's 122-109 loss to the Jazz.
Augustin saw 20 minutes of court time for the first time in four games, and he finished with his most points since March 21. The veteran point guard took all of his shots from beyond the arc, making three of four attempts in 20 minutes. Augustin is shooting an impressive 68.6 percent from the field over his past eight contests, and he has averaged 2.3 three-pointers over that stretch. However, his counting stats of 8.3 points, 1.4 boards and 1.1 assists during that span don't give him much fantasy appeal.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Detonates in win
Augustin finished with 20 points (7-7 FG, 6-6 3Pt) in 26 minutes during Monday's 131-120 win over the Cavaliers.
Augustin was on fire from beyond the arc, connecting on all six of his three-point attempts. He led the Lakers bench in scoring and minutes played. Augustin is a breath of fresh air for a Los Angeles squad that hovers near the bottom-third of the league in three-point shooting percentage. He can have streaming appeal if the Lakers are ever shorthanded.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Leads bench with 16 points
Augustin provided 16 points (6-9 FG, 4-7 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and one steal over 22 minutes during Wednesday's 139-130 overtime loss to Houston.
Augustin went 4-for-7 from deep Wednesday and paced Los Angeles' reserves in scoring, though he failed to contribute much in other categories. The veteran point guard has averaged 20.5 minutes through his first four games with the Lakers, but he doesn't offer much fantasy utility given his low usage, especially while Russell Westbrook, Malik Monk and Austin Reaves remain available in the backcourt.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Dishes six assists in Lakers debut
Augustin provided three points (1-4 FG, 1-3 3Pt), one rebound, six assists and three steals in 22 minutes during Thursday's 132-111 loss to the Clippers.
Augustin was brought aboard by the Lakers earlier in the week to provide backcourt depth, and the veteran came through with a team-leading six dimes and three thefts despite playing only 22 minutes in his team debut. He has never been a prolific scorer, but Augustin could help the Lakers as a distributor and shooter -- he is shooting 38.0 percent from three-point range over the course of his career. However, it's unlikely that Augustin will see enough minutes to warrant a pickup in fantasy.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Will be available Thursday
Augustin (recently signed) will be available for Thursday's game against the Lakers but is not guaranteed to be in the rotation, Dan Woike of the Los Angeles Times reports.
Augustin will, in theory, help the Lakers with backup point guard minutes. However, he may not be an everyday player while competing for minutes with Austin Reaves, Malik Monk and other guards.

Lakers' D.J. Augustin: Heading to Lakers
The Lakers plan to sign Augustin later this week after the team informed center DeAndre Jordan of his release Monday, Shams Charania of The Athletic reports.
Augustin was waived by the Rockets in mid-February and will now join Los Angeles as veteran backcourt depth. The 34-year-old appeared in 34 games for Houston this season and averaged 5.4 points, 1.2 rebounds and 2.2 assists while shooting 40.6 percent from deep. He's unlikely to be available for the Lakers' next game Tuesday versus the Mavericks while he waits to finalize his contract, but he could make his team debut Thursday against the Clippers.

The Lakers made the acquisition of Augustin official Tuesday morning, but the veteran point guard won't make his debut for his new team until at least Thursday when the Lakers face the Clippers. D.J. Augustin: Waived by Houston
Augustin will be waived by the Rockets on Thursday, Jackson Gatlin of Locked On Rockets reports.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Fills backup PG role in return
Augustin (COVID-19 health and safety protocols) logged four points (1-5 FG, 1-4 3Pt, 1-2 FT), three assists and two rebounds across 16 minutes off the bench in Monday's 133-113 loss to the 76ers.
Augustin stepped back into his usual role on the Rockets' second unit as he made his way back from a four-game stint in the protocols. Houston should get Kevin Porter back from a one-game suspension Wednesday in Washington, and Armoni Brooks will likely exit the protocols at some point next week, if not sooner. When that happens, Augustin could be in danger of losing his spot in the rotation if the 10-28 Rockets decide to prioritize the development of younger guards like Porter, Jalen Green, Brooks and Josh Christopher.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Clears COVID protocols
Augustin cleared the COVID-19 protocols and isn't listed on the injury report for Monday's game against Philadelphia, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
Augustin is set to return after spending the past four games in the health and safety protocols. The 34-year-old averaged 8.78 points and 1.3 rebounds in 18.3 minutes over the last three games before his absence.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Enters COVID protocols
Augustin was placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols Sunday, Kelly Iko of The Athletic reports.
Augustin is the first member of the Rockets to be placed into the league's COVID-19 protocol and certainly may not be the last. The 34-year-old guard has been averaging 5.4 points, 2.3 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 14.9 minutes per game. His absence should allow for Armoni Brooks to see some more minutes off the bench.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Not starting Thursday
Augustin is not in the starting lineup for Thursday's game against the Knicks, Adam Spolane of Sports Radio 610 Houston reports.
Augustin had started two of the last three games heading into Thursday, but, ironically, went off in the one game in which he came off the bench, scoring 22 points in 23 minutes Monday night. The 34-year-old will come off the bench once again as Eric Gordon returns to the starting five.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Starting at Cleveland
Augustin will start Wednesday's matchup against the Cavaliers, Mark Berman of Fox 26 Houston reports.
The Rockets are down a myriad of players, so Augustin will be forced into the starting five alongside Armoni Brooks in the backcourt. In his one prior start, Augustin played 27 minutes and posted three points and two assists.

Rockets' D.J. Augustin: Drains six triples in victory
Augustin had 22 points (7-9 FG, 6-7 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds and one assist in 23 minutes during Monday's 132-126 victory over Atlanta.
Augustin came out of nowhere, turning in easily his best performance of the season. The playing time was elevated as a result of the coaching staff opting to run with those players who had the momentum late. Augustin provides a nice veteran presence off the bench for the Rockets but based on what we have seen thus far, this performance should be viewed as an outlier.
