Magic's Jevon Carter: Signed by Orlando
The Magic signed Carter for the remainder of the season on Friday, Shams Charania of ESPN reports.
Carter, who was previously waived by the Bulls, is being brought in to provide emergency backcourt depth for Orlando. With the Magic moving on from Tyus Jones, Carter could be the third-string point guard on the depth chart moving forward.

Jevon Carter: Cut by Bulls
The Bulls waived Carter on Saturday, Joe Cowley of the Chicago Sun-Times reports.
Chicago acquired Dario Saric in a salary dump Saturday, and Carter ended up being the casualty with the Bulls needing to clear a roster spot to facilitate the trade. Carter was hardly utilized this season, appearing in 22 games while averaging10.6 minutes per contest.

Carter played four minutes during garbage time, continuing what has been a season with very little fanfare. Having only appeared in 21 regular-season games, Carter currently sits well outside the top 300 in standard leagues, averaging 5.4 points and 1.4 three-pointers in 11.1 minutes per contest.

Carter posted 15 points (5-13 FG, 5-10 3Pt), four rebounds and one assist in 18 minutes off the bench during Monday's 130-127 victory over the Nuggets.
The five threes were a season high for Carter, albeit in only his fourth game, and it was his best showing from beyond the arc since March 31 of last season. The journeyman guard seems to have found a home as a depth option in the Chicago backcourt after playing for four different teams in his first five years in the NBA, but with Coby White (calf) getting close to resuming a full workload, Carter will likely head back to the end of the bench in short order.

Carter finished with 11 points (3-4 FG, 3-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, three assists and two steals over 17 minutes during Wednesday's 124-113 loss to the Pistons.
Carter had arguably his best game in the past 12 months, an indication of how muted his role has become. Chicago was once again without Josh Giddey (ankle), allowing Cater to move into a somewhat meaningful role. While it was great to see the veteran holding his own, this is likely nothing more than an outlier, based on what we have seen from him recently.

Carter made his season debut Sunday against New York, and while he was unable to produce in his first game, it is worth noting that he is probably getting back to speed after not playing since the preseason. Carter will likely continue backing up Tre Jones until Coby White (calf) returns.

Despite some very modest workloads, Carter has been an obvious standout during the preseason. Through four games, he's averaging 13.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 0.8 steals and 3.0 three-pointers in just 16.4 minutes per contest. He's firmly behind Josh Giddey and Tre Jones at point guard, but Carter is proving that he'll be ready when his name is called.

Carter has been used sparingly in the preseason so far, though he's made the most of his minutes. He's not guaranteed a role for Opening Night, but he's doing everything he can on his end.
