Chicago acquired Dario Saric in a salary dump Saturday, and they needed to clear a roster spot to make it happen. Carter was hardly utilized this season, appearing in 22 games with an average of 10.6 minutes per contest.

Carter played four minutes during garbage time, continuing what has been a season with very little fanfare. Having only appeared in 21 regular-season games, Carter currently sits well outside the top 300 in standard leagues, averaging 5.4 points and 1.4 three-pointers in 11.1 minutes per contest.
Carter registered six points (2-6 FG, 2-5 3Pt), one rebound and one assist over 12 minutes during Monday's 115-101 loss to the Celtics.
Carter saw playing time for the first time in the past three games and for just the third time in the past 13 games. It's been another disappointing season for the veteran, who has been used only in emergencies. In 17 appearances, he has averaged 6.2 points and 1.6 three-pointers in 13.1 minutes per game.

The Bulls have been hit pretty hard by injuries, but Carter is still being used quite sparingly. Over his last four appearances, he's seen 10.5 minutes per contest with 2.8 points and 1.3 assists per game.
Carter accumulated 11 points (4-7 FG, 3-6 3Pt), one rebound, one assist and one steal over 18 minutes during Monday's 143-130 loss to the Pelicans.
Carter's offensive production has been very inconsistent, as he has logged duds every other game after turning in a solid shooting performance. He remains buried on the depth chart behind Josh Giddey, Coby White and Tre Jones, but Carter still finds himself in the rotation due to a slew of injuries on the wing.

The five threes were a season high for Carter, albeit in only his fourth game, and it was his best showing from beyond the arc since March 31 of last season. Carter has been used sparingly in the preseason so far, though he's made the most of his minutes. Through two games, he's seeing 11.8 minutes per contest with averages of 12.0 points, 1.5 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 3.0 three-pointers on 64.3 percent shooting from the field. He's not guaranteed a role for Opening Night, but he's doing everything he can on his end.
Carter will exercise his $6.8 million player option for the 2025-26 season, NBA reporter Jake Fischer reports.
This was always the expectation for Carter. The veteran guard made a total of 36 regular-season appearances in 2024-25, posting averages of 4.3 points, 1.1 assists and 1.1 rebounds in 8.9 minutes per contest. He could struggle to land a rotation role in 2025-26.
Carter will come off the bench during Wednesday's game against the Heat.
After being a starter for the first time for Chicago in the loss to the Cavaliers on Tuesday, Carter will return to the second unit Wednesday against Miami. In 33 games off the bench this season, Carter has averaged 7.6 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 assists per game while shooting 41.1 percent from the field.
