Rockets head coach Ime Udoka said that Finney-Smith will be out for Thursday's game in Atlanta due to left ankle injury management, Varun Shankar of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Houston will exercise caution in holding out Finney-Smith and Tari Eason for the second leg of a back-to-back set after both played in Wednesday's game against the Spurs. In the Rockets' 111-99 loss, Finney-Smith finished with zero points (0-2 FG, 0-2 3Pt) and two rebounds in 19 minutes. Finney-Smith is averaging just 2.9 points and is shooting 30 percent from the field over 15 appearances with Houston since being cleared to make his season debut Dec. 25 upon completing his recovery from offseason ankle surgery.

After signing a four-year, $52 million deal with the Rockets in July, Finney-Smith will likely be in line for a greater role once he gets fully ramped up following surgery, but he's expected to continue handling light usage while he shares the floor with the likes of Alperen Sengun, Amen Thompson and Kevin Durant. Most of the limited fantasy appeal that Finney-Smith will offer will be as a streaming option for three-pointers.

Finney-Smith joined the Rockets on a four-year deal this offseason but hadn't been available for the first 27 games of the season after he underwent surgery in June to address a left ankle injury. The Rockets had been mum on providing updates on his status throughout the season, but Finney-Smith was apparently able to do enough ramp-up work behind the scenes over the past few weeks for the team to sign off on him making his team debut. As Charania notes, Finney-Smith will be operating with a strict minutes limit Thursday, though once he gets fully ramped up, the 32-year-old could end up eating into the playing time of supporting players such as Tari Eason, Clint Capela, Steven Adams, Reed Sheppard and Josh Okogie.
