  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Likely out through late January

Robinson (foot) is unlikely to be cleared for game action until "at least late January," Shams Charania reported Wednesday on ESPN's "NBA Today" program. Robinson has been sidelined all season after requiring a pair of procedures on his left ankle, with the most recent surgery coming back in mid-May. The 26-year-old has yet to be cleared for practice, and the Knicks apparently aren't planning on the big man being ready to contribute for at least another month or two. Karl-Anthony Towns has started at center all season after mostly playing power forward with Minnesota in 2023-24, and the Knicks are likely envisioning Robinson filling a backup role once he's back up to full speed. In the meantime, Precious Achiuwa will likely serve as Towns' primary backup, while also occasionally sharing the court with him.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Not yet cleared for practice

Robinson (ankle) has not been cleared to begin basketball activities, with coach Tom Thibodeau noting that the big man is only shooting thus far, Steve Popper of Newsday reports. Robinson' troublesome left ankle, which was most recently surgically repaired in May, continues to yield a slow return to action, although no setbacks have been reported. Robinson's game is solely dependent on his athleticism and movement skills defensively, so a comprehensive increase in on-court reps will be needed prior to estimating his return.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: To miss start of season

Robinson (ankle) will not be ready for the beginning of the NBA season, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. Robinson is coming off two procedures on his left ankle, with the most recent surgery taking place on May 14. According to Begley, a return in December or January could be on the table depending on how the rehab process goes, as neither Robinson nor the Knicks want to rush the process to make sure that the center is at full strength before getting clearance. With Robinson sidelined to begin the season, Julius Randle could spend plenty of time at center in smaller lineups, while Precious Achiuwa and Jericho Sims will have more opportunities to earn meaningful minutes.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Gets second surgery on ankle

Robinson underwent surgery Monday to address a stress injury to his left ankle, Brian Windhorst of ESPN.com reports. The procedure was Robinson's second of the season on the left ankle, which he reinjured during the Knicks' first-round playoff series victory over the 76ers. Robinson previously underwent surgery in December after suffering a stress fracture to the ankle and missed 50 games before returning to action in late March. He played in just 16 games (including playoffs) following his return before the Knicks announced last Tuesday that Robinson would be re-evaluated in 6-to-8 weeks after aggravating the injury. It's unclear if that re-evaluation timeline still holds now that he's had surgery, but in any case, Robinson won't be available for the remainder of the Knicks' playoff run. He'll turn his focus toward getting back to full health for training camp in October.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Out for season

The Knicks announced Tuesday that Robinson sustained a stress injury to his surgically repaired left ankle last week during the team's first-round series victory over the 76ers and will be re-evaluated in 6-to-8 weeks. Robinson won't need an additional surgery and is expected to make a full recovery before training camp, but the setback with the ankle rules him out for the rest of the Knicks' playoff run. In Robinson's absence, Precious Achiuwa is expected to re-enter the rotation as the primary backup to starting center Isaiah Hartenstein during the Knicks' second-round series versus the Pacers. Robinson made just 31 appearances during the regular season, posting averages of 5.6 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.2 steals, 1.1 blocks and 0.6 assists in 24.8 minutes.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't play Wednesday

Robinson is listed as out for Wednesday's Game 2 against the Pacers due to left ankle injury management. Robinson logged 12 minutes in Game 1 but seemingly aggravated the surgically repaired ankle that has bothered him throughout the playoffs. Precious Achiuwa will likely receive increased playing time in Robinson's absence, while the latter's next chance to suit up is Game 3 on Friday.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Available for Game 6

Robinson (ankle) will be available for Thursday's Game 6 matchup with the 76ers. Robinson logged 25 minutes in his return Tuesday, so he should see a similar workload in Game 6. With Robinson back in the mix, Precious Achiuwa will likely be out of the rotation.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Questionable for Game 6

Robinson (ankle) is questionable ahead of Thursday's Game 6 matchup with the 76ers. Robinson missed Game 4 due to an ankle issue but returned for Game 5 and logged 25 minutes. The big man has averaged 3.3 points, 7.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 steals in 21.3 minutes during the opening-round series.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Good to go Tuesday

Robinson (ankle) is available for Tuesday's Game 5 against the 76ers, Steve Popper of Newsday reports. Robinson has been upgraded from questionable to available Tuesday after missing Game 4 with a left ankle sprain. Robinson will likely continue to split time with Precious Achiuwa as the backup center to Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't play Sunday

Robinson (ankle) has been downgraded to out for Sunday's Game 4 against the 76ers, Derek Bodner of AllPHLY.com reports. Robinson sprained his surgically repaired left ankle during Thursday's Game 3 loss, didn't practice Saturday and was listed as questionable for Game 4. Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN said the big man was warming up with the intention of playing Sunday, but Robinson ultimately didn't get the green light. In his absence, Precious Achiuwa should be the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein, and Jericho Sims may crack the postseason rotation for the first time.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Intends to play Sunday

Robinson (ankle), who's officially listed as questionable, is warming up with the intention of playing in Sunday's Game 4 against the 76ers, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports. Robinson sprained his surgically repaired left ankle during Thursday's Game 3 loss and didn't practice Saturday while sporting a walking boot. However, it seems those measures were merely precautionary, as the big man is expected to suit up in Game 4, barring a setback during warmups. After posting eight points, 12 rebounds and four blocks in 30 minutes during a Game 1 victory, Robinson was limited to 30 total minutes over the next two matchups and complied three points and 11 boards during those contests.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Questionable for Sunday

Robinson (ankle) is questionable for Sunday's Game 4 against the 76ers. Robinson didn't participate in Saturday's practice and was spotted wearing a walking boot after Game 3 on Thursday, so his chances of playing are slim given the recent developments. If he doesn't play, then Precious Achiuwa would operate as the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Does not practice Saturday

Robinson (ankle) was a non-participant at Saturday's practice, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. Robinson was seen wearing a walking boot on his sprained left ankle following an early exit in Thursday's 125-114 loss to the 76ers. He had accumulated two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 FT) and seven rebounds across 12 minutes before leaving. His absence from Saturdays' practice is not a good sign for his status for Sunday's Game 4, but the team has not ruled the big man out. If he ultimately does not get the green light, Precious Achiuwa figures to serve as the primary backup behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Departs Game 3 in walking boot

Robinson was spotted with a walking boot on his sprained left ankle following his early exit in Thursday's 125-114 loss to the 76ers in Game 3 of the first-round playoff series, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. Further tests will be needed to determine whether he will be able to face the Sixers in Game 4 on Sunday. Robinson scored two points (1-3 FG, 0-2 FT) and nabbed seven rebounds in 12 minutes before leaving the contest late in the second quarter, when the 76ers' Joel Embiid grabbed at Robinson's ankle and was assessed a flagrant foul. The Knicks will send Robinson in for further testing ahead of Sunday's Game 4 in Philadelphia, but if he's unable to play, head coach Tom Thibodeau will likely keep a spot in the rotation open for Precious Achiuwa to serve as the primary backup to starting center Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Won't return Thursday

Robinson won't return to Thursday's Game 3 versus the 76ers due to a sprained left ankle, Ian Begley of SportsNet New York reports. He finished with two points and seven rebounds in 12 minutes. Robinson carried a questionable tag into Thursday, and he seemed uncomfortable and a step slow for most of the evening before he left the game for good. Isaiah Hartenstein will likely be asked to soak up more minutes in his absence. Robinson should be considered questionable for Game 4 on Sunday.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Will play Thursday

Robinson (ankle) will be available for Thursday's game against the 76ers, head coach Tim Thibodeau told Ky Carlin of USA Today. Robinson played 30 minutes in the series opener, and while he logged only 18 in Game 2, the big man should see decent minutes Thursday after going through the team's shootaround with no issues. He should continue playing off the bench while Isaiah Hartenstein remains in the first unit.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Questionable for Thursday

Robinson (ankle) is questionable for Game 3 versus the 76ers on Thursday. Robinson logged 30 minutes off the bench during New York's Game 1 win, but he was limited to just 18 minutes during Game 2, so perhaps his ankle was bothering him. We'll have a better idea of Robinson's playing status based on his activity level following Thursday's shootaround, but if he is forced to the sidelines, Precious Achiuwa and Jericho Sims would have the opportunity to get into the rotation.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Full practice participant

Robinson (ankle/rest) was a full participant in Tuesday's practice and is not dealing with an injury after sitting for the second half of Sunday's win over Chicago, Fred Katz of The Athletic reports. Robinson is "fine" in the words of coach Tom Thibodeau, and he has additional time to continue re-charging while New York awaits the outcome of the Play-In Tournament. Robinson has been volatile across 10 games since returning from ankle surgery, but he represents a valuable platoon element of the Knicks' frontcourt.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Shut down for second half

Coach Tom Thibodeau said after Sunday's win over the Bulls that Robinson (ankle) wasn't available in the second half, Stefan Bondy of the New York Post reports. Robinson finished Sunday's win scoreless with one rebound in seven minutes of action before being shut down. It was especially disappointing to see the big man unavailable after he posted 15 points, eight rebounds and two blocks in 25 minutes during Friday's win over Brooklyn, which was by far his most productive outing since returning from a 50-game absence. Even if Robinson is cleared for the playoffs, he figures to remain in a limited bench role behind Isaiah Hartenstein.

  • Knicks' Mitchell Robinson: Productive off bench Friday

Robinson ended with 15 points (5-6 FG, 5-8 FT), eight rebounds and two blocks across 25 minutes during Friday's 111-107 victory over the Nets. Jericho Sims drew the start at center with Isaiah Hartenstein (Achilles) given the day off, but it was Robinson who made the biggest impact down low, missing just one shot from the field and finishing two boards away from a double-double despite logging only 25 minutes. Robinson is likely to remain as a bench option for Sunday's game against the Bulls regardless of whether Hartenstein returns or not.
