Top Zach Edey News

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Deemed week-to-week

Grizzlies head coach Taylor Jenkins said Tuesday that imaging on Edey's sprained left ankle was promising, but the rookie center is still being viewed as week-to-week, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

The rookie big man sprained his ankle during the third quarter of Sunday's win over the Nuggets, and he looks set to miss at least all three of the team's games this week while he recovers from the injury. Edey has turned in a promising start to his rookie campaign, averaging 11.1 points, 6.9 rebounds, 1.0 blocks and 0.9 steals across 20.1 minutes in 14 outings. While Edey is sidelined, Brandon Clarke and Jay Huff will likely cover most of the minutes at center.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Won't play Tuesday

Edey (ankle) has been ruled out for Tuesday's game against the Nuggets.

Edey rolled his ankle in the third quarter of Sunday's game against Denver, and the rookie big man was diagnosed with a sprained ankle. It's unlikely Edey will be able to suit up for the Grizzlies' second leg of a back-to-back Wednesday against the 76ers. While Edey is sidelined, Jay Huff should see additional playing time off the bench behind starting center Brandon Clarke.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Exits early Sunday

Edey won't return to Sunday's game against the Nuggets due to a left ankle injury.

Edey needed assistance to get to the locker room after rolling his ankle in the third quarter and was ruled out shortly thereafter. The rookie center will conclude Sunday's contest with seven points (3-7 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), seven rebounds, two assists, two blocks and one steal in 14 minutes. Jay Huff and Brandon Clarke will absorb the minutes at center for the remainder of the contest, while Edey's status for Tuesday's rematch with the Nuggets is now in question.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Returns to game Sunday

Edey (ankle) returned to Sunday's game against the Nuggets, Drew Hill of The Daily Memphian reports.

Edey left the game in the second quarter and limped back to the locker room, but he returned to the game in the third quarter. It remains unclear what Edey was dealing with, but his return to action indicates it should not be much of a concern going forward.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Heads to locker room Sunday

Edey went to the locker room during Sunday's game against the Nuggets with an undisclosed injury, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Edey left the game midway through the second quarter and went back to the locker room with an apparent limp. The injury remains unclear at this point, so his return is questionable. If he cannot return, Jay Huff will likely see more minutes at center.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Goes back to locker room

Edey (ankle) was helped to the locker room in the third quarter of Sunday's game against the Nuggets, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Edey limped to the locker room in the second quarter, but he was able to return for the start of the third quarter. However, he rolled his ankle in the third quarter and needed assistance back to the Grizzlies' locker room. If Edey is unable to return for the fourth quarter, Jay Huff will see an uptick in playing time off the bench.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Just misses double-double Friday

Edey chipped in 14 points (5-8 FG, 2-2 3Pt, 2-2 FT), nine rebounds, one block and one steal in 23 minutes off the bench during Friday's 123-118 loss to Golden State.

The rookie center has looked comfortable since moving to the second unit, and over four games off the bench Edey is averaging 13.0 points, 7.8 boards, 1.8 steals, 1.3 threes, 1.3 assists and 1.3 blocks in 23.8 minutes a contest while shooting 58.1 percent from the floor. The defensive production in particular is very encouraging, and Edey has recorded at least one block and one steal in all four of those appearances off the bench.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Four steals off bench in win

Edey supplied 12 points (5-7 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 1-2 FT), six rebounds, two assists, one block and four steals over 24 minutes during Sunday's 134-89 win over the Trail Blazers.

Edey has scored in double digits off the bench in his last two appearances, but he's also emerged as a reliable defensive presence -- which shouldn't be surprising given his size and defensive instincts. Edey is averaging 13.8 points, 8.6 rebounds, 1.6 blocks, 1.2 assists and 1.2 steals per game in November.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Coming off bench

Edey will play a reserve role in Friday's matchup with the Wizards.

The Grizzlies will opt to go smaller with Brandon Clarke and Jaren Jackson in the frontcourt. As a result, Edey will come off the bench for the first time in his rookie season. He is averaging 10.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks across 19.1 minutes in nine games this year.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Erupts in loss to Nets

Edey notched 25 points (11-12 FG, 1-1 3Pt, 2-4 FT), 12 rebounds, one assist and four blocks over 29 minutes during Monday's 106-104 loss to the Nets.

Edey made his second three-pointer of the campaign and posted his second straight double-double. He was feeling it Monday night and the Grizzlies made a concerted effort to feed him looks, but he also generated his own with five offensive boards. His fantasy arrow is pointed straight up after this breakout performance.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: First career double-double

Edey had 10 points (4-7 FG, 2-2 FT), 10 rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 22 minutes during Saturday's 124-107 win over the 76ers.

Edey recorded the first double-double of his career, while also playing at least 22 minutes for the second straight game. Despite starting in all seven games thus far, it's been a struggle for Edey in terms of adjusting to the NBA. However, he does appear to be slowly figuring things out, a welcome sight for anyone still utilizing him on a nightly basis.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Scores 13 points in loss

Edey totaled 13 points (6-9 FG, 1-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal across 18 minutes during Wednesday's 119-106 loss to the Nets.

Edey tied his personal-best scoring mark in this game. Even though he's scored in double digits in just two of his five contests so far, the rookie seems to be getting more comfortable with each passing game. Excluding his NBA debut in which he fouled out after playing just 15 minutes, Edey is averaging 9.8 points and 4.3 rebounds across a mere 17.0 minutes per game.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Shakes off questionable tag

Edey (calf) is available for Wednesday's game against the Nets, Damichael Cole of The Memphis Commercial Appeal reports.

Edey will play through a sore right calf and likely remain in the starting lineup. However, it hasn't been a great start for the rookie. He's averaging only 7.8 points, 5.0 rebounds and 0.3 blocks in 16.0 minutes through his first four regular-season appearances.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Iffy for Wednesday vs. Nets

Edey is questionable for Wednesday's game versus the Nets due to right calf soreness.

Edey is dealing with a sore calf and is in jeopardy of missing his first game of the season. The big man has started in all four of his regular-season appearances, and he has averaged 7.8 points and 5.0 rebounds across 16.0 minutes per game. However, the 22-year-old has played only 27 total minutes over the last two games, and the Grizzlies have opted for a deep frontcourt rotation with Santi Aldama, Jay Huff, Jake LaRavia and Brandon Clarke all receiving double-digit playing time off the bench.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Near double-double vs. Houston

Edey closed with 13 points (6-10 FG, 1-3 FT), nine rebounds, one assist, one block and one steal over 23 minutes during Friday's 128-108 loss to the Rockets.

Edey was one rebound shy Friday from registering his first-career NBA double-double as he led the Grizzlies with nine boards, four of which came on the offensive side of the floor. The rookie center out of Purdue managed to put up 10 field-goal attempts, which is a good sign that he'll have his opportunities on offense alongside Ja Morant and Desmond Bane. Edey and the Grizzlies will head back home to host Paolo Banchero and the Magic on Saturday.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Fouls out in regular-season debut

Edey provided five points (2-4 FG, 1-5 FT) and five rebounds across 15 minutes before fouling out of Wednesday's 126-124 victory over the Jazz.

There's no question this is not the way Edey would've thought his NBA debut would end up, as the rookie looked outmatched on defense and was unable to use his size to his advantage. He should remain the starting center for the time being and will be given every opportunity to adjust to the pace of the league, so fantasy managers shouldn't be overly concerned about his forgettable rookie debut.

  • Grizzlies' Zach Edey: Returns to starting lineup

Edey will start at center in the Grizzlies' preseason finale against the Heat.

Edey has been the primary starting center during the exhibition season, though Brandon Clarke got the starting nod in Memphis' previous game. The rookie from Purdue has looked like a steal throughout the preseason and projects to start at center once the regular season tips off. He finished with 23 points (10-15 FG, 0-1 3Pt, 3-4 FT), nine rebounds, one assist and one steal across 19 minutes in Monday's 120-116 preseason win over the Pacers.
