The Bears seem to be collecting tight ends.
Chicago signed former Colts and Rams tight end Brody Eldridge to a one-year deal Monday and cut running back Kahlil Bell for the second time this season. The move left them with five active tight ends on the 53-man roster.
The Colts' 2010 fifth-round pick had been suspended the first four games this season due to a violation of the NFL's performance-enhancing substance policy. He was with the Rams when suspended and was subsequently cut.
He spent two seasons with the Colts and made 14 catches for 84 yards but is known more as a blocker than receiver.
The Bears' interest in Eldridge may be due to the knee injury that knocked rookie fullback-tight end Evan Rodriguez out of the last two games.
Rodriguez did practice Monday, at least during the individual portion of drills, but there was no update on his status as the Bears are playing later in the week and do not have to file an injury report until Thursday.
CB Sherrick McManis (hip), LB Blake Costanzo (thumb) and WR Alshon Jeffery (hand) were the only players missing practice. Costanzo had thumb surgery last week but could return to practice this week.
