The Chicago Bears' 2021 season continues to trend downward. Three days after the team's 38-3 loss to the Buccaneers, it was reported by NFL Network's Ian Rapoport that perennial Pro Bowl linebacker Khalil Mack is expected to miss Sunday's game against the 49ers. Mack is dealing with a foot injury that has limited his practice availability since the third week of the regular season.
If the Bears elect to place him on injured reserve, Mack would miss three games and four weeks, as the Bears have a Week 10 bye. Chicago's next three games include home games against the 49ers and Ravens and a road game against the Steelers on "Monday Night Football."
Despite the nagging injury, Mack continues to play at a high level. The former NFL Defensive Player of the Year leads the Bears in sacks (six) and tackles for loss (six). The loss of Mack would be a blow to a Bears defense that is currently 14th in the NFL in scoring, eighth in passing, 23rd in rushing, 18th in third down efficiency and eighth in red zone efficiency.
Sam Kamara, a rookie who has been activated for two games this season, is in line to replace Mack in the Bears' starting lineup. Kamara played collegiately at Stoney Brook, an FCS program. He tallied 98 tackles and 13 sacks in 31 games with the Seawolves.
Chicago is looking to end a two-game losing streak that has dropped them to 3-4 entering Sunday's game against the 49ers. San Francisco is also looking to end a losing streak, as the 49ers are 2-4 after a 2-0 start.
