Shaun Prater, the cornerback who was the Bengals' fifth-round draft pick, has a knee injury and will be lost for the season, NFL Network reported.
Prater, a three-year starter and two-time All-Big Ten performer at Iowa, wasn't expected to contribute but was likely to land on the practice squad.
Prater excelled as a gunner on special teams at Iowa and would have competed for playing time at that position, but with a crowded group of corners his contribution on defense would have been slim to none.
This adds to the current depth issue at corner where only one CB participated in every camp practice (free agent Chris Lewis-Harris) and five missed Saturday's scrimmage.
