When the Cleveland Browns signed TE Evan Moore to a three-year deal last September, he appeared to be the tight end of the future. Now he might be the tight end of the past.
He was a major disappointment in 2011 and is now fourth on the depth chart behind Benjamin Watson, Jordan Cameron and Alex Smith.
Moore is one of several Browns on the bubble. None of them will have fans shedding tears if they are cut, but a few might be a bit surprising.
Here are three others:
- Oniel Cousins (T, 5th year, spent first three years with Ravens) -- Cousins has fallen behind rookie Ryan Miller. He committed three penalties in the preseason win at Green Bay and hasn't practiced recently due to an undisclosed injury. The Browns are looking for youth and athleticism throughout the roster, which means Cousins might be turning in his playbook soon.
- David Sims (S, 2nd year, having a strong camp) -- Sims has worked his way up to being on the bubble. He was an afterthought when signed, but he has snagged two interceptions in two preseason games and has been active in practice. A veteran such as Raymond Ventrone might have to go for Sims to make the team. If Sims has earned the trust of coach Pat Shurmur with his special teams play, he could make the team.
- Brian Schaefering (DL, 5th year, veteran could be victim of numbers) -- Schaefering has fallen to the fifth spot on the depth chart along the defensive line. The promising start of rookies John Hughes and Billy Winn at tackle and quality play of free agents Frostee Rucker and Juqua Parker at the defensive end could spell the end of Schaefering in Cleveland.
