A hot sun beat down on the Browns as the veterans and rookies hit the field together for the first time. The defense was ahead of the offense throughout as the passing game suffered. Rookie QB Brandon Weeden struggled to hit his targets in stride.

Who’s here: CB Joe Haden got a head-start on what could be a Pro Bowl year by playing the role of standout on Day 1. His nose for the ball was evident as he intercepted or broke up at least five passes. Quarterbacks avoided throwing to his side last year, but that was no excuse for recording zero INTs. Haden might be more of a ball-hawk in 2012.

Who’s not: DT Ahtyba Rubin and TE Evan Moore are missing and will be out at least a few days, according to coach Pat Shurmur, who declined to elaborate. Moore was disappointing in 2011 as he failed to live up to his expectations as a big-play receiver. He might have fallen behind Benjamin Watson, Jordan Cameron and Alex Smith on the depth chart. But the Browns can't afford to lose Rubin for an extended period. His sideline-to-sideline mobility and sure tackling would be sorely missed.
