If managing expectations was the Cardinals goal this preseason, they have been wildly successful. The starting offense did little to provide Cardinals fans any encouragement in a 32-27 loss to the Titans at LP Field Thursday night. John Skelton and Kevin Kolb both remained locked in competition for the starting quarterback job because both have been shackled by mistakes, Kent Somers of the Arizona Republic reported.
Left tackle D.J. Young looked shaky in his starting debut, running back Beanie Wells looked solid in his preseason debut and receiver Larry Fitzgerald was, well, Larry Fitzgerald. Darren Urban of azcardinals.com had those and other notes from Thursday’s game in Tennessee.
Kolb's competition for the job, John Skelton, missed an opportunity to clinch the starting role, Urban wrote. Skelton said: "It's frustrating getting out of the game that early and seeing the offense get into a flow, but you have to make the most of your opportunities and I don’t feel I did."
Should Cardinals coach Ken Whisenhunt take an unconventional and risky approach the club’s final preseason game by playing QBs Kevin Kolb, John Skelton and most of the starting offense? He said he wanted to his players get things right. This is offense is pretty far from right.
