With the news that Chiefs quarterback Alex Smith won't play vs. the Chargers this Sunday with a lacerated spleen, Chase Daniel will get the second start of his career. Coincidentally, his first career start also came in Week 17 vs. San Diego in 2013.
And though the Ravens -- who, in order to reach the playoffs, need to beat the Browns this weekend and hope Kansas City knocks off the Chargers -- probably aren't happy with this development, here's some hope for Baltimore.
Daniel actually played OK in Week 17 last year.
See? (Via Pro Football Reference)
And though the Chiefs lost the game 27-24 in overtime, they actually entered the fourth quarter with a 24-14 lead, thanks in part to Daniel. So, perhaps there really is a chance for Baltimore to sneak into the postseason
And who knows? Maybe Daniel can accomplish something Smith couldn't this year. Throw a touchdown to an actual receiver.
Alex Smith finishes his 2014 season w/ 303 completions and 18 pass TDs. None of those 18 TDs to a WR (9 TE, 8 RB, 1 FB) #Chiefs
