The Chiefs got down to 53 without making any shocking moves on Friday. The most surprising cut was veteran DE Amon Gordon, who was the victim of a numbers game on the defensive line. The Chiefs terminated Gordon's contract as well as veteran LB Leon Williams.
Kansas City held onto the rights to two rookies by placing them on injured reserve. QB Alex Tanney hurt his finger during Thursday's game at Green Bay, and CB DeQuan Menzie, a fifth-round pick, had been sidelined with a hip injury.
Notable cuts: DE Amon Gordon (8th year, Stanford) -- Gordon started two games and played all 16 last season for the Chiefs. He was able to play both inside and outside, but by keeping three nose tackles (Anthony Toribio, Dontari Poe and Jerrell Powe), there wasn't any room left for Gordon. ... SS Donald Washington (4th year, Ohio State) -- If Washington was on the bubble, his arrest in July for suspicion of driving under the influence likely landed him on the cut list. Washington played the last three seasons with the Chiefs and even started five games the last two years. ... FB Patrick DiMarco (2nd year, South Carolina) -- DiMarco was the only fullback left on the roster. The Chiefs opted to keep rookie RB Nate Eachus, who could potentially move over to fullback if need be. This also is a sign that the Chiefs are serious about using more two-tight end sets with Kevin Boss and Tony Moeaki. Maybe there's not any room for a fullback in this offense.
