Top Dontari Poe News

  • Dontari Poe: Shown door in Dallas

The Cowboys released Poe on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.

Poe started every game for the Cowboys this season and recorded eight tackles in the process. However, the Cowboys were apparently looking for a trade partner this week and after an unsuccessful search, they cut Poe loose. Poe could draw interest on the open market for teams looking for veteran depth on the interior defensive line.

  • Cowboys' Dontari Poe: Back in action

Poe (quadriceps) was activated from the active/PUP list Tuesday.

Poe has passed his physical and will now be eligible to join teammates on the practice field. Following the release of Gerald McCoy (quadriceps), the Cowboys look primed to lean on Poe as a key force along the interior of the defensive line. The former Panther is on track to start Week 1.

  • Cowboys' Dontari Poe: Nearing return to action

Poe (quadriceps) remains on the reserve/PUP list, but head coach Mike McCarthy signaled that Poe is making good progress, Michael Gehlken of The Dallas Morning News reports.

Poe continues to rehab from quadriceps surgery he endured in December, but McCarthy didn't relay any concern that Poe wouldn't be ready for the regular season. The 29-year-old defensive tackle played in 11 games for the Panthers last year, logging 22 tackles and four sacks, and he looks poised to start for the Cowboys after signing a two-year, $9.5 million deal in March.

  • Cowboys' Dontari Poe: Placed on PUP list

Poe (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list Tuesday, Todd Archer of ESPN.com reports.

Poe is working his way back from quadriceps surgery that limited him to 11 games in 2019. The eight-year pro stands to play a key role plugging up the interior of Dallas' defensive line when healthy, but he's not yet ready to begin practicing with his new teammates.

  • Cowboys' Dontari Poe: Joining forces with Dallas

The Cowboys and Poe agreed to terms of a contract Friday, David Helman of the team's official site reports.

An eight-year pro, Poe has experience in both 3-4 (Kansas City and Carolina) and 4-3 (Atlanta) alignments, the latter of which he'll be a part of in Dallas. Over the course of his career, he's tallied two-plus sacks in four campaigns while averaging 49.3 defensive snaps per game. The 6-foot-3, 346-pound nose tackle will serve a space-eating role once he recovers from surgery on a quad injury that ended his 2019 season after 11 contests.
