If there has been a theme to the rash of injuries the Cowboys have sustained since training camp, it has been in the hamstring area.
All-Pro LB DeMarcus Ware has been one of the players with a hamstring setback, and it flared up again this week.
Ware was limited in practice on Wednesday but was on the field Thursday for the first part of practice open to the media. Ware missed about two weeks of practice in training camp with the hamstring injury that kept him out of the final three preseason games.
Head coach Jason Garrett said the Cowboys are making sure they are overly cautious with Ware this time around.
“We want to make sure he’s fresh and ready to go for Sunday,” Garrett said. “We don’t think it’s going to be a big problem.”
The Cowboys kept that mentality with other players dealing with hamstring issues, and the decision proved to be a good one.
Miles Austin, who missed nearly four weeks of practices and preseason games but was able to play the entire game last Wednesday against the Giants. Anthony Spencer and Nate Livings also had hamstring injuries that kept them out about three weeks each but they were able to return without any setbacks.
Ware recorded two sacks in the first game of the season, putting him over the century mark for his career. Ware became the second-fastest player to reach 100 sacks, doing so in 113 games, behind only Reggie White’s 96 games.
Ware (101.5) needs 13 sacks to surpass Harvey Martin (114) to become the Cowboys’ all-time sack leader.
