The Cowboys avoided a scary situation on Monday when wide receiver Dez Bryant had to leave the practice field in San Diego because of a knee injury.
But the MRI results showed no major damage to his right knee, only patella tendonitis, which is commonly known as “jumper's knee.”
Bryant’s timetable to return is unknown, but with the rash of injuries the Cowboys have experienced lately -- especially to key players such as Miles Austin, Jason Witten and DeMarcus Ware -- it’s likely the club will stay on the cautious side.
Bryant likely could be held out of Saturday’s game with the Rams at Cowboys Stadium. The following Wednesday, which will be the preseason finale against Miami, most of the starters will be held out anyway.
The Cowboys did suffer some other injuries at receiver on Monday when Andre Holmes had to leave practice with a back injury. He’s been battling back tightness for about a week, and it flared up again, forcing him to slowly walk off the field. Also, rookie receiver Donavon Kemp had a left knee injury and his status is uncertain.
