The Cowboys simply found a way to win once again. It wasn’t pretty. It was often erratic. But the Cowboys are now tied for first place in the NFC East because they were able to handle the Steelers with a dramatic 27-24 overtime win.
Offense: A-
Going up against the No. 1 defense in the NFL, the Cowboys were able to move the ball enough when needed. Tony Romo became the first quarterback to pass for 300 yards against the Steelers in 21 games, dating back to last year against Baltimore. His 341 yards was huge, but the running game also churned out 87 yards, including 81 from DeMarco Murray on 14 attempts. Previous game's grade: B
Defense: B+
Pittsburgh put up some yards and points. But when you factor in what the defense is doing with its personnel, it’s remarkable. When the game was on the line, Brandon Carr made a huge interception and return to set up the game-winning field goal in overtime. Before that, DeMarcus Ware and Anthony Spencer had clutch sacks in the fourth quarter. At the end of the game, the Cowboys had guys like Michael Coe, Eric Frampton and Sterling Moore on the field -- all of whom were signed during the season, including Coe, who joined the team last Wednesday. Previous game's grade: B+
Special Teams: B+
It was an up-and-down day but overall, some positive plays came from special teams. Victor Butler had a huge forced fumble during a punt return by Antonio Brown that could've been disastrous for the Cowboys. Instead, the turnover led to a game-tying score. Dwayne Harris had a 39-yard punt return that flipped the field position late in the game and Dan Bailey had a game-winning field goal for the second straight game. Previous game's grade: C
Coaching: A
Another huge win for the Cowboys, who have now won five of six games. Defensively, it’s amazing what they’ve done with guys like Bruce Carter, Sean Lee, Kenyon Coleman, Barry Church and Orlando Scandrick on IR with Jay Ratliff likely headed there, too. But even with a patchwork unit, the defense is coming through in the clutch. In overtime, after the interception to the 1-yard line, Jason Garrett elected to run one play -- kneeling Romo to the middle of the field to center the field goal by Dan Bailey. Previous game's grade: A+
