Eagles at Lions score: Philly dominates as Boston Scott, Jordan Howard each run for two scores

In surprisingly convincing fashion, the Philadelphia Eagles completely dominated the Detroit Lions behind an inspiring performance by the running game and the defense. Philadelphia rushed for four touchdowns in a game for the first time since December of 2013 in a 44-6 victory at Ford Field.

The Eagles rushed for 235 yards -- a season-high -- as Boston Scott and Jordan Howard each rushed for two scores in the victory. Philadelphia had two players with multiple rushing touchdowns in the same game for the first time since Sept. 14, 1980 -- when Wilbert Montgomery and Leroy Harris each rushed for two scores against the Vikings. Scott had 12 carries for 60 yards and two scores for the Eagles while Howard finished with 12 carries for 57 yards and two touchdowns. Jalen Hurts led Philadelphia with seven carries for 71 yards and finished 9 of 14 for 103 yards. The Eagles were up so comfortably that Hurts was replaced by Gardner Minshew early in the fourth quarter.

Philadelphia's defense was dominant in the victory, turning in their finest performance of the year. The Eagles' first-team defense allowed zero points on eight Lions' possessions, forcing one turnover and sacking Lions quarterback Jared Goff six times with 11 quarterback hits. The turnover was an Avonte Maddox fumble in the third quarter that Darius Slay returned for a 33-yard touchdown to put Philadelphia up 38-0. Slay scored his first career touchdown at Ford Field, never recording one in his seven years with the Lions.

The Lions offense struggled throughout the afternoon, as Jared Goff fell to 0-15 in games he started without Sean McVay has his head coach. Detroit has lost 12 games in a row dating back to last year and have failed to score 20 points in seven consecutive games. Detroit had an opportunity to get on the board in the first quarter, but Austin Seibert missed a 47-yard field goal that kept the Lions scoreless. Goff was sacked four times in the first 30 minutes, including on a fourth-and-inches at the Eagles' 22-yard line. Milton Williams sacked Goff with 13 seconds left in the half that took points from Detroit off the board. The Lions did not score until the game was well out of hand, a Jermar Jefferson touchdown run with 7:18 to play in the game and the Eagles up 41 points.
