Like just about everybody else on the Eagles, Brandon Boykin watched the Baltimore Ravens destroy the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday Night Football.
Boykin watched Ravens QB Joe Flacco torch the Bengals’ defense. He also saw Flacco team up with WR Anquan Boldin for four catches and 63 yards with a 25-yard touchdown.
This Sunday Boykin will get his chance to try and slow down Boldin, the Ravens’ three-time Pro Bowl wide receiver. Boldin plays a lot of slot receiver in the Ravens' no-huddle attack. Boykin’s job is to cover the slot receiver in the Eagles' defense. But Boldin isn’t just any slot receiver -- he has caught 771 passes in his career and scored 55 touchdowns.
“He’s the total package,’’ Boykin said. “He can run, he’s big, he’s real aggressive when he goes after the ball and he can run after the catch. It’s a big challenge, but I’m looking forward to it.’’
Boykins (5-9, 182) knows the biggest advantage Boldin has over him is just that -- he’s bigger. Boldin is 6-2, 220 pounds, and Flacco has proven he’ll target Boldin when he has size matchups like that.
“He just lets those guys make plays," Eagles defensive coordinator Juan Castillo said of Flacco. "Plus, the Ravens know that Boykin is a rookie and that’s something else they’ll try to take advantage."
