Carolina Panthers news and notes for Tuesday:
- Michael Lombardi of NFL.com reported that the Panthers will be switching to a 3-4 defense this year. Steve Reed of the Associated Press said that wasn’t true.
- The Panthers acquired receiver Louis Murphy from Oakland and sent tackle Jeff Otah to the Jets in separate trades. Joseph Person of the Charlotte Observer breaks down the deals with quotes from GM Marty Hurney and the NFL Network’s Eric Davis.
- Scott Fowler of the Charlotte Observer says “good riddance” to Jeff Otah
- One possible reason for the Murphy trade: Receiver David Gettis was placed on the PUP list, according to the AP’s Steve Reed. He tore an ACL last year in training camp.
- The Panthers are auctioning off one-of-a-kind items for charity, including a 6-foot by 17.5-foot wall wrap from the stadium and the vinyl Panther head logo from the stadium scoreboard. A Cam Newton signed jersey currently leads the bidding.
- Free agent TE Jeremy Shockey, a Panther last season, will visit the Eagles on Wednesday, according to CBSSports.com’s Jason La Canfora
