Chiefs long snapper James Winchester lost his father on Tuesday.
Michael Winchester, who worked for Southwest Airlines, was shot outside of Will Rogers World Airport in Oklahoma City and died at the hospital. He was 52. James Winchester's agent confirmed the news.
Shortly after, the Chiefs offered their love and support to James Winchester.
The Kansas City Star's Terez A. Paylor provided more information about the shooting:
Capt. Paco Balderrama of the OCPD says he believes Winchester was working at the time. When asked if the shooting could be tied to Winchester's employment, Balderrama said it could be, but he did not know if the shooter and the victim knew each other.
According to CBS affiliate KOTV, police said the suspect was found dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
And here's Southwest Airlines' statement, via CBS Dallas/Fort Worth:
