Giants WR Hakeem Nicks is questionable for Wednesday night's opener against the Cowboys. (US Presswire) |
Giants wide receiver Hakeem Nicks (foot) has maintained that he’ll play in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys on Wednesday night, but the team listed him and six other players as “questionable” on Tuesday.
Left tackle Will Beatty (back) is also on the list, and if he’s not able to play, expect veteran Sean Locklear to get the start on quarterback Eli Manning’s blind side.
Others on the questionable list: Weakside linebacker Michael Boley (hamstring), cornerback Jayron Hosley (toe), strongside linebacker Mathias Kiwanuka (groin), running back Da’Rel Scott (knee) and defensive end Adrian Tracy (hamstring).
Veteran signee Keith Rivers played well in Boley’s place in the preseason.
Scott’s presence on the injury report was a new development on Tuesday. If he’s unable to play, expect running back Andre Brown to see time as the off returner on kick returns as well as several other special-teams functions.
Running back Ahmad Bradshaw (hand) is listed as probable; cornerback Prince Amukamara (ankle), defensive tackle Marvin Austin (back) and offensive tackle James Brewer (back) are out.
Bradshaw will likely be splitting carries with first-round pick David Wilson.
Cowboys injuries: Dallas will be without nose tackle Jay Ratliff (ankle) and safety Matt Johnson (hamstring), and tight end Jason Witten and safety Danny McCray are listed as “doubtful.”
Witten’s status is exacerbated by the fact that his former backup, Martellus Bennett, signed with the Giants in the offseason.
Wide receiver Andre Holmes (knee), cornerback Mike Jenkins (shoulder) and linebacker Kyle Wilber (thumb) are all questionable.
Wide receiver Miles Austin (hamstring), wide receiver Dez Bryant (knee), linebacker Dan Connor (hip), center Phil Costa (back), running back DeMarco Murray (wrist), running back Phillip Tanner (hand) and linebacker DeMarcus Ware (hamstring) are all listed as probable.
The Giants and Cowboys kick off at 8:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday night from East Rutherford, N.J.
