Minnesota Vikings DE Jared Allen was kept off the stat sheet by Jaguars LT Eugene Monroe. But one hit from Allen in the first quarter that didn't technically count has some of the Jaguars upset after their 26-23 loss in Minnesota on Sunday.
Allen clearly jumped early on the second play of the game, but he didn't let up, despite a flag and a whistle. He then took a clean shot on QB Blaine Gabbert.
“They should have stopped the play," Monroe told the Florida Times-Union. "That just shouldn’t happen. He knows better than to hit the quarterback in that situation ... That didn’t start his day off with me on a good note."
Gabbert, who completed 23 of 39 passes (58.9 percent) for 260 yards and two touchdowns on Sunday, agreed with Monroe's assessment.
“I think the whole team had a problem with it," he said.
No moral victory from Minnesota: The Jaguars can take some positives away from their loss at Minnesota. Gabbert looked improved from 2011, RB Maurice Jones-Drew (19 carries, 77 yards) didn't look too rusty despite his holdout and the Jags led the game with fewer than 10 seconds remaning.
None of those facts are much consolation to LB Paul Posluszny.
“That doesn’t help,” Posluszny told the team's official website. “We left with a loss. We had the game. The game was over. It was one where we’re going to look back and say, ‘We beat ourselves.’ The Vikings are a good team, they have talented players and their players made plays, but at the end of the day, that’s a game we should have won. The defense was on the field and we should have been able to win. There’s no moral victory."
Jennings, Bradfield waiting on MRIs: No update on the status of RB Rashad Jennings (knee) or RT Cameron Bradfield (foot) on Monday afternoon, as the team is waiting on their MRI results.
Jennings and Bradfield both left Sunday's game against Minnesota and did not return. Coach Mike Mularkey said he doesn't believe Jennings' injury was serious after the game.
