The Jaguars (1-9, 1-3 AFC South) appeared to be on their way to pulling off one of the most shocking upsets of the season.
Instead, it was another late-game collapse and the heavily favored Texans (9-1, 3-0 AFC South) that pulled out the 43-37 victory in overtime.
The Jaguars should leave this loss with some confidence and perhaps a quarterback controversy after the way backup Chad Henne played in relief of starter Blaine Gabbert, who left with a shoulder injury.
Offense: A
Where did this come from? Facing one of the best defenses in the league, the Jaguars exploded for 458 yards of offense. How they did it was just as surprising. Gabbert went down and Henne had the game of his life, completing 16 of 38 attempts for 354 yards, four TDs and no INTs. First-round pick WR Justin Blackmon finally showed what he can do as well with seven catches for 236 yards and a TD. TE Marcedes Lewis added two TD receptions. The running game was the only minor disappointment, but reserve RB Jalen Parmele had 80 yards in relief of the struggling Rashad Jennings. Sunday's performance is what the Jaguars envisioned when they emphasized improving the passing game over the offseason. Previous game's grade: D
Defense: C-
The defense held the Texans in check for much of the game, but it didn't play well enough to preserve the 34-20 lead the Jaguars held in the fourth quarter. Like the Jags' offense, the Texans' passing game erupted in the fourth quarter and overtime. QB Matt Schaub put up enormous numbers -- completing 43 of 55 for 527 yards, five TDs and two INTs. The Jaguars struggled to keep up with WR Andre Johnson, who had his best game of the season with 14 catches for 273 yards and a TD. That one TD was extremely costly. He got behind the Jaguars' defense in overtime for a 48-yard TD that won the game. Some credit is due for holding RB Arian Foster to just 2.8 yards per carry. Previous game's grade: C-

The Jaguars won the kicking battle. K Josh Scobee hit all three of his FGs, including a 33-yarder in OT that extended the game. P Bryan Anger averaged 48.4 yards per punt and boomed one for 62 yards. The kick coverage was not as good. WR Keshawn Martin had a 71-yard punt return and a 54-yard kickoff return for Houston. Neither went for a score, but both set up the Texans with good field position. Coaching: B
There are a couple different ways you can look at this category. The coaching staff did a fantastic job of preparing and motivating a previously 1-8 football team to go face one of the best teams in the league. But on the other hand, it is a results-oriented business and the Jaguars continue to show they can't get it done in the win column. The rest of the season will show if this was a sign of real progress or just another frustrating case of almost getting the job done. Previous game's grade: D
