The Jets announced the acquisition of veteran quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick on Wednesday, per the team's official website. New York will receive Fitzpatrick in exchange for a late conditional draft pick to the Texans.
Fitzpatrick, 32, has ties to Jets offensive coordinator Chan Gailey. He played under Gailey for three seasons with the Bills (2010-2012). He went 16-29 as a starter with 71 touchdowns and 67 turnovers under Gailey in Buffalo.
The 11-year veteran completed 60.2 percent of his passes, registering 2,483 yards with 17 touchdowns and eight interceptions last season. He will compete with Geno Smith for the starting job.
