On Sunday afternoon Jordan Spieth looked like a lock to win the 2016 Masters. He was sitting on a five-stroke lead heading into the turn at Augusta. Then the back nine happened, and he promptly gave up six strokes in three holes. Danny Willett won and Spieth was forced to do television interviews after what has to easily be the most devastating loss of his career.

Spieth handled these interviews pretty well, so naturally everyone on Twitter started screaming about Cam Newton.

Newton, as you'll likely recall, was less than enthusiastic about his post Super Bowl interview following the Panthers loss to the Broncos in Super Bowl 50.

People were largely unimpressed with the Newton comparison.

Credit for Spieth for holding it together, even if he didn't want to have a camera in his face immediately after the meltdown.

But the Cam comparison is pretty lazy.

The only reason to compare Newton and Spieth is that they'll both be motivated to come back from brutal losses to get better. It's what the best athletes do.

Poor Jordan Spieth. (USATSI)
