The Giants and Jets began Sunday winless and battling against the odds. Both New York teams were 0-3 heading into their Week 4 matchups, and had opened as 7.5 point underdogs in games against the Saints and Titans, respectively (by kickoff, the Giants were +7, while the Jets line had fallen to +5.5 due to Titans injuries). But not only did the league's two New York teams finally get in the win column, they both needed overtime to prevail in dramatic fashion, finishing within minutes of each other.
For the record, the Giants got a win first. According to ESPN Stats & Info, it was the first time the Giants and Jets won on the same day in nearly two years, the last time coming on Dec. 22, 2019.
Jets finally fly
Jets rookie quarterback Zach Wilson had his first taste of victory despite keeping his streak of regular season games with an interception (4) alive in the Jets' 27-24 win over the Titans. The BYU product completed 21-of-34 passes for 297 yards, two touchdowns and the one pick. It was easily the No. 2 selection's best performance of the young season. Robert Saleh also got his first win as head coach.
The Jets odds had fallen because the Titans were without their two top receivers: A.J. Brown and Julio Jones. However, it wouldn't be easy -- it never is for the Jets -- as they trailed 9-0 and then 17-10. Wilson, though, launched an amazing 53-yard touchdown pass to Corey Davis, before Tennessee responded with a TD of their own from Cameron Batson with just 16 seconds remaining in regulation. In overtime, Saleh's team drove 71 yards to set up a go-ahead 22-yard field goal from Matt Ammendola. Tennessee responded by driving 44 yards in the overtime, but the game ended on a missed 49-yard field goal attempt by Randy Bullock.
Giants stun Saints
Approximately 1,300 miles south, Joe Judge's Giants were orchestrating their own fourth-quarter comeback against the Saints. Graham Gano successfully converted a 48-yard field goal with 31 seconds remaining to send the game to an extra period.
Facing a third-and-5 from New Orleans' 6-yard line in overtime, running back Saquon Barkley took the Daniel Jones handoff and carried it into the end zone for the game-winning touchdown. Barkley had 52 yards on 13 carries, as well as five receptions for 74 yards and a touchdown.
Judge improved to 7-13 in his career as a head coach.
With the two New York teams mirroring each other on Sunday, Jacksonville and Detroit are the lone winless teams remaining.
