The Panthers arrived at training camp at Wofford University in Spartanburg, SC., Friday morning, where it was 91 degrees. That was slightly cooler than Charlotte, which was under a heat advisory. The team will hold their first practice Saturday.
Who’s here: Several veterans have already hit the field during the three-day rookie camp earlier this week. QB Cam Newton participated, as did several defensive players recovering from injury. LBs Jon Beason and Thomas Davis and DT Ron Edwards all participated.
Who’s not: WR David Gettis will compete with newly acquired Louis Murphy for playing time behind Steve Smith and Brandon LaFell, but he starts camp on the physically unable to perform list. GM Marty Hurney said the hamstring injury wasn’t related to the ACL problem that caused him to miss time last season, and he’s expected back soon. Tackle Jeff Otah isn’t here because he was dealt to the Jets earlier this week. But after failing a physical, he might be back with the team soon.
