But Rex Ryan's Traveling Circus isn't alone. Due to injures or bad luck, several teams are on the search for warm bodies compete at quarterback. It's why Matt Leinart and John Beck are suddenly popular names, and they could soon be joined by Colt McCoy.
The 49ers are trying to trade McCoy and if there are no takers, they will probably release him, according to NFL.com's Ian Rapoport.

On April 1, the 49ers sent a fifth- and seventh-round pick (Nos. 164 and 227) to the Browns in exchange for McCoy and a sixth-rounder (173). Less than six months later, the team has apparently seen enough.
After starter Colin Kaepernick, the 49ers also have Scott Tolzien, Seneca Wallace and B.J. Daniels on the depth chart.
Seneca Wallace's one-year #49ers deal is for $840K, but would cost 49ers just $555K on the cap -- same as Scott Tolzien. Colt McCoy: $1.5M.

UPDATE: Matt Barrows of the Sacramento Bee tweets that McCoy has restructured his contract with the 49ers.

In addition to the salary-cap implications, it didn't help that McCoy struggled in the preseason, completing 46.2 percent of his passes with no touchdowns and two interceptions. On the upside, McCoy never accidentally ran out of the back of the end zone for a safety, so there's that.
A former third-round pick of the Browns, McCoy spent his first three NFL seasons in Cleveland where he threw for 4,388 yards, 21 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.
