Before being benched Sunday against the Chargers for his poor performance, Jets quarterback Geno Smith missed team meetings Saturday, which angered team members, a source told the New York Daily News.
On Monday, a Jets spokesman confirmed Smith missed team meetings Saturday, but called it an "honest mistake." The spokesman added Smith "got the times confused" and arrived 5-10 minutes after the meetings ended. He did cover the details of the meeting with with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg and quarterbacks coach David Lee. The team also said this was the first time Smith missed a meeting.
It's unclear if the Jets punished Smith for missing the meeting. Despite being pulled Sunday, he has already been named the starting quarterback for Week 6 against the Broncos.
