Seahawks coach Pete Carroll never said exactly what Russell Wilson needed to do against the Chiefs to win the starting quarterback job, but you have to think Wilson accomplished it Friday in Seattle's 44-14 preseason win over Kansas City.

In his first start with the Seahawks, the rookie QB completed 13 of 19 passes for 185 yards and two touchdowns in just under three quarters of action. The third-round pick looked poised, efficient and mostly unflappable as he led to Seahawks to scores on each of their five first-half drives.

Wilson led the first-team offense on three TD drives in the game, which is three more than Matt Flynn had engineered in his two preseason starts. In Flynn's two games with the first team offense, the Seahawks were limited to four field goals.

Flynn sat out Friday's game with an injury that the team called a sore arm. "The elbow flared up in the middle of the week, and he just couldn't throw well enough to play today," Carroll said. "It's like a tendinitis-type thing, but we don't know what it is any more than that."

As for Wilson, "He's done everything we've asked of him," Carroll said. "This is the guy we had hoped he would be."

"I definitely felt that I was ready to go," Wilson said. 

Despite Wilson's performance, Carroll didn't commit to a starter for either the Seahawks' regular-season opener or the team's final preseason game next Thursday against Oakland.

T.Over? Terrell Owens' performance against Kansas City on Friday was almost as divisive as his personality. Owens dropped two passes from Wilson early in the game, but he redeemed himself in the third quarter with an over-the-head 40-yard catch that he somehow managed to pull in. It was a good thing Owens made the catch because he's getting some stiff competition for a roster spot from Braylon Edwards. Edwards, the former 49er and Browns receiver, made a case for a roster spot with a 32-yard catch in the first half. Edwards now has three catches for 83 yards this preseason with all three passes coming from Wilson.

Turbin tears it up: Wilson wasn't the only Seahawks rookie that put on a show at Arrowhead Stadium on Friday. Fourth-round draft pick Robert Turbin did, too. In his most extensive action of the preseason, Turbin carried the ball 14 times for 93 yards and a touchdown. The explosive Turbin had several big runs in the game, including a 17-yarder, a 14-yarder and a 25-yarder that went for a touchdown.

Tarvaris takes first snaps: Reports have been flying around for almost two weeks now that the Seahawks are looking to trade quarterback Tarvaris Jackson. Despite the Seahawks' openness to trading Jackson, he's still on the team, and Friday he got his first playing time of the preseason. Jackson didn't do much to increase his trade value during his short time on the field, though. He completed 3 of 5 passes for 1 yard.

Jeron-ny on the spot: S Jeron Johnson improved his roster standing for the second straight game. One week after forcing a fumble and then intercepting Peyton Manning against the Broncos, Johnson was at it again. After teammate Cordarro Law jarred the ball loose from Chiefs QB Matt Cassel, Johnson jumped on it. Recovering fumbles isn't all Johnson does, though. The Boise State product was also second on the team in tackles with four.

Three times the fun: The Seahawks scored a touchdown in all three phases of the game Friday. Earl Thomas intercepted Matt Cassel and returned it 75 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter. That was followed two-and-a-half minutes later by a Golden Tate 92-yard punt return for a touchdown. The offense also scored three touchdowns in the game.
