The Vikings released TE Allen Reisner on Thursday to make room for WR Jerome Simpson, who was added to the roster on Monday, following his three-game suspension for violating the team’s substance abuse policy.

Reisner’s release leaves the team with only three tight ends on the roster: Kyle Rudolph, John Carlson and Rhett Ellison (who is listed as a fullback but has played tight end for the team).

The loss hurts the depth of the tight end as Carlson missed nearly the entire training camp with a sprained MCL and missed all of last season with a shoulder injury and Rudolph sat out practice this week with a quadriceps injury.

The Vikings may hope to slide Reisner through waivers and pick him back up.
