Jaguars' Matt Barkley: Signs with Jacksonville
Jacksonville signed Barkley to its active roster from the Giants' practice squad Tuesday.
In a corresponding move, the Jaguars placed safety Daniel Thomas on their injured reserve list Tuesday. With Trevor Lawrence dealing with an AC joint sprain, Barkley could be in line to play a backup role as early as Sunday.

Matt Barkley: Returns to New York
Barkley signed with the Giants' practice squad Wednesday, Pat Leonard of the New York Daily News reports.
Barkley was waived from the team's 53-man roster Monday due to the expected return of Tyrod Taylor (ribs), but the USC product will ultimately remain with the franchise as a member of its practice squad.

Matt Barkley: Gets waived by Giants
The Giants waived Barkley on Monday, Dan Salomone of the Giants' official site reports.
With Tyrod Taylor (ribs) expected to return from the injured reserve list soon, per Ryan Dunleavy of the New York Post, the Giants decided to part ways with Barkley. He's now set to become a free agent unless he's claimed by another team during the current waiver period, but he's also a candidate to be re-signed to the Giants' practice squad if he's not picked up.

Giants' Matt Barkley: Backing up DeVito
Barkley will back up starting quarterback Tommy DeVito this Sunday at Dallas, Jordan Raanan of ESPN.com reports.
Barkley could eventually make starts later this season, but the Giants will give DeVito the first look atop the depth chart after losing Daniel Jones (knee) to a season-ending injury. Tyrod Taylor (ribs) is on injured reserve and will miss at least three more games, leaving DeVito and the recently signed Barkley as the healthy quarterbacks on the roster.

Giants' Matt Barkley: Joins active roster
The Giants will sign Barkley to the active roster from their practice squad Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Barkley takes up the roster spot vacated by Daniel Jones (knee), who was placed on injured reserve. With Jones lost for the season and with Tyrod Taylor (ribs) facing an uncertain timeline to return from IR, Barkley will join Tommy DeVito as the only healthy quarterbacks on the Giants' roster. DeVito is expected to start Sunday against the Cowboys, but given his struggles in the Giants' past two games while coming off the bench, the undrafted rookie hardly has much security atop the depth chart. It wouldn't be surprising if Barkley eventually unseats DeVito as the team's starter.

Matt Barkley: Heads to Giants
The Giants signed Barkley to their practice squad Tuesday, Mike Garafolo of NFL Network reports.
Barkley was let go from the Bills' practice squad Sept. 1 after sustaining an elbow injury during the preseason. With Tyrod Taylor (ribs) knocked out of Sunday's 13-10 overtime loss to the Jets and Daniel Jones just (neck) cleared for contact, the Giants signed Tommy DeVito to their active roster Tuesday and added Barkley to their practice squad as insurance in case Jones or Taylor are unable to suit up this week.

Matt Barkley: Tries out with Giants
Barkley (elbow) worked out with the Giants on Monday, Ralph Vacchiano of Fox Sports reports.
Barkley has seemingly recovered from an elbow injury that resulted in the Bills releasing him from injured reserve in September. The Giants are currently short-handed at quarterback with Daniel Jones still dealing with a neck injury, and Barkley could now have the opportunity to reunite with head coach Brian Daboll, who coached the 33-year-old in Buffalo.

Barkley was set to spend the 2023 season on Buffalo's injured reserve, but he will now be free to sign elsewhere. The quarterback has not appeared in a game since 2020, though that won't likely impact his ability to find another suitor in the near future.

Barkley suffered an elbow injury during a preseason contest against Pittsburgh on Aug. 19, and he was never able to return to practice. The veteran quarterback entered training camp expected to battle Kyle Allen for a backup role behind Josh Allen, but Barkley is now slated to miss the 2023 campaign.
