  • Saints' Derek Carr: Ruled out for Week 16

Interim coach Darren Rizzi said Saturday that Carr (hand) "hasn't progressed enough" and has been ruled out for Monday's game in Green Bay, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. In particular, Carr still is regaining strength in his left, non-throwing hand that sustained a fracture back in Week 14 at the Giants, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. With Carr out for a second game in a row, the Saints will turn to Spencer Rattler under center Monday, while Jake Haener will serve as his backup. Carr's next opportunity to suit up is Sunday, Dec. 29 versus the Raiders.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Missing practice again

Carr (hand) isn't practicing Friday, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. Carr is considered unlikely to play Monday at Green Bay, but Saints coach Darren Rizzi hasn't ruled the QB out and recently pushed back on the notion of Carr being shut down for the rest of the season. Rizzi said Carr likely would need to practice Saturday to have a chance to start Monday night.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: DNP on Thursday, still may play Monday

Interim coach Darren Rizzi said that if Carr (hand), who didn't practice Thursday, isn't able to play Monday in Green Bay, Spencer Rattler will be under center for the Saints, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Rizzi added that Carr probably will need to practice by Saturday in order to have a chance to suit up Week 16. Additionally, Rizzi pushed back at reports that Carr likely won't return this season, telling Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune, "Derek Carr wants to play this season. There is zero doubt about that. ... So, therefore, that's why this is day-to-day." In the event that Carr doesn't do enough to put an end to a one-game absence Monday, Rattler will get the start, while Jake Haener will serve as his backup.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Unlikely to return this season

Carr (concussion) underwent further examination of his fractured left hand and is considered a few weeks away from being cleared to take contact, making it unlikely that he'll play again this season, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. Carr has two different fractures in his non-throwing hand, in addition to the concussion that sidelined him for this past Sunday's 20-19 loss to the Commanders. While not yet eliminated from playoff contention, the 5-9 Saints are long shots to clinch a postseason bid and thus have little incentive to rush Carr back onto the field. Jake Haener stepped in as the starting quarterback in Week 15, but he completed just four of 10 pass attempts for 49 yards and an interception before being benched in the second half in favor of Spencer Rattler. Rattler led the Saints to four scoring drives in the final two quarters to nearly complete a comeback from a 17-0 deficit, so he could be in the driver's seat to replace Carr as the starter in New Orleans' Week 16 matchup with Green Bay on Monday.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Availability for Week 16 uncertain

Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said Monday it's too soon to project whether Carr (hand/concussion) will have a chance of suiting up versus the Packers on Dec. 23, Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football reports. Rizzi said it "wouldn't be a reach" for Carr to retake the field before the conclusion of the regular season, though it remains to be seen whether a road matchup with the Packers on Monday Night Football will be a realistic target for the veteran quarterback. Carr is nursing a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand and is simultaneously working his way through the concussion protocol. Jake Haener was benched early in Sunday's loss to the Commanders, while Spencer Rattler nearly led the team to a comeback win after entering the game.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Officially inactive Sunday

Carr (hand/concussion) is listed as inactive Sunday against the Commanders, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Per Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com, Carr also isn't available as the Saints' emergency third quarterback, indicating that he hasn't made his way through the concussion protocol, at the very least. Carr also is dealing with a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand, so it may be some time before he receives clearance for game action. Jake Haener will get the spot start in place of Carr on Sunday, while Spencer Rattler will serve as the backup.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Officially doubtful, won't start

Carr (hand/concussion) is listed as doubtful for Sunday's game against the Commanders, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Carr hasn't practiced this week, and while it's possible he clears concussion protocol by Sunday, the Saints have already named Jake Haener as their Week 15 starter. If anything, Carr likely would just be available as the emergency No. 3 QB, behind both Haener and Spencer Rattler.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Stays sidelined at practice

Carr (hand/concussion) was a non-participant at practice Thursday, Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune reports. Carr emerged from Week 14 action with a fracture in his left, non-throwing hand and a concussion, which so far have kept him out of drills this week. The Saints haven't officially ruled out Carr for Sunday's game versus the Commanders, but interim coach Darren Rizzi revealed Wednesday that Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler are the candidates to get the start, and a decision will be made by Friday, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. As for Carr himself, the Saints may make a ruling on his status as soon as they post their final injury report of the week.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: No practice Wednesday

Carr (hand/concussion) didn't practice Wednesday, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Carr fractured his left hand in this past Sunday's win over the Giants and also entered the concussion protocol afterward. As of Wednesday, he's still dealing with swelling in his non-throwing hand, and interim head coach Darren Rizzi considers Carr's situation to be "day-to-day, week-to-week," per Matthew Paras of The New Orleans Times-Picayune. Both Jake Haener and Spencer Rattler took first-team reps at Wednesday's practice, and an announcement on which of the two will be the Saints' starting quarterback in place of Carr on Sunday versus the Commanders is expected to be made by Friday, according to Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Week-to-week, won't go on IR

Saints interim head coach Darren Rizzi said Monday that Carr (hand) is considered week-to-week due to his hand fracture and is not expected to be placed on IR, Katherine Terrell of ESPN.com reports. Rizzi also relayed that Carr is in the NFL's concussion protocol. Rizzi noted the fracture to Carr's left, non-throwing hand currently doesn't appear as though it will require surgery, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. The interim head coach also said it's possible that Carr could start Sunday's game against the Commanders even if he's unable to practice this week, per Sean Fazende of Fox 8 New Orleans. It would be a tall task, though, for the veteran signal-caller to both clear the five-step concussion protocol fully and reach a level of comfort with his injured hand to handle full contact and play Week 15. If Carr isn't able to suit up versus Washington, starting duties will fall to one of Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: To miss multiple weeks

Carr is believed to have suffered a fracture in his left non-throwing hand during Sunday's 14-11 win, an injury that will likely force him to miss multiple games, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The Saints haven't yet officially disclosed the severity of Carr's injury or ruled him out to play Week 15 against the Commanders, but it appears the timing of the veteran quarterback's injury could put him in danger of missing the remainder of the regular season. Rapoport reports that New Orleans may opt not to place Carr on IR, allowing him a chance to recover in time to retake the field this season. In any case, it appears that the Saints will have to pivot to either Jake Haener or Spencer Rattler under center for the immediate future.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: May have broken left hand

Carr may have suffered a broken left hand during Sunday's 14-11 win at the Giants, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football and Ian Rapoport of NFL Network report. Carr sustained at least a hand injury when he attempted to leap over teammate Kevin Austin and a Giants defender in the fourth quarter, taking a hard landing to his upper body in the process. Coach Darren Rizzi told Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football afterward that Carr may also be in the concussion protocol, but it was too early to know for sure. In any case, Carr could be in danger of missing time, and if he does, Jake Haener likely would be lined up to start next Sunday against the Commanders, with recent emergency third quarterback Spencer Rattler jumping into the backup role.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Leaves stadium with hand in cast

Carr left MetLife Stadium with his left hand in a cast following Sunday's 14-11 win against the Giants, Nick Underhill of NewOrleans.Football reports. Carr departed Sunday's game in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter after leaping over teammate Kevin Austin and a Giants defender, landing hard on his upper body in the process. He underwent a concussion check in addition to suffering the hand issue, and interim coach Darren Rizzi relayed afterward that Carr could be in the protocol for head injuries, too, per Mike Triplett of NewOrleans.Football. Carr thus may be in danger of missing time due to the pair of health concerns. Jake Haener stepped in for Carr on Sunday but didn't attempt a pass, while Spencer Rattler served as the emergency third quarterback.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Getting concussion check

Carr departed Sunday's game at the Giants in the fourth quarter due to a left hand injury and to be evaluated for a concussion, Ross Jackson of WWL Louisiana reports. Considering his exit occurred in the waning minutes of the contest, Carr will finish Week 14 with 219 yards, one touchdown and one interception on 20-for-31 passing and two carries for 12 yards. Jake Haener took over for Carr under center, while Spencer Rattler is serving as the emergency third quarterback Sunday.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Exits late Sunday

Carr (undisclosed) went to the locker room late in the fourth quarter of Sunday's game at the Giants, John Hendrix of SI.com reports. Carr remained on the turf after leaping over teammate Kevin Austin and a Giants defender for extra yards on a scramble. After a visit to the sideline tent, he went to the locker room with a number of Saints personnel, favoring his left arm in the process. The precise nature of the injury isn't known, but Jake Haener took over for Carr down the stretch. As for Spencer Rattler, he was inactive but the emergency third quarterback Sunday.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Week 14 Waiver Priority List

Carr is worth a look in deeper leagues in Week 14 at the Giants given the matchup and with six teams on a bye. But Carr will be tough to trust since he just lost another weapon in Taysom Hill (knee), and the Saints are running out of healthy playmakers in the passing game. Carr scored at least 22.7 Fantasy points in two of his past three games, and hopefully he can stay hot against the Giants in Week 14. He's worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Sleeper QBs

Carr is playing well coming into Week 13 against the Rams, and hopefully, he stays hot at home. He scored at least 22.7 Fantasy points in each of his past two games against Atlanta and Cleveland. And he's reached that threshold in three of four games at home this season. Three of the past five quarterbacks against the Rams have scored at least 21.9 Fantasy points, and Carr is a strong starter in Superflex and two-quarterback leagues in Week 13.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Adds/Streamers (QB Preview)

With no one on a bye, I hope you don't need a streaming option this week. If you do, Carr is a pretty good option. The Saints are coming off their bye playing a Rams defense that was just physically handled by the Eagles. Carr has multiple touchdown passes in three of his last four games, and the Rams have allowed three of the last QBs they've faced to score at least 21 Fantasy points.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Week 12 Waiver Priority List

Carr is on a bye in Week 12, but you can consider adding him in deeper leagues if you need a quarterback for the stretch run. He has a favorable upcoming schedule against the Rams (Week 13), Giants (Week 14) and Washington (Week 15), and he's playing well of late with at least 22.7 Fantasy points in his past two starts against Atlanta and Cleveland. Carr is worth adding for 1 percent of your remaining FAB.

  • Saints' Derek Carr: Two TDs in win over Cleveland

Carr completed 21 of 27 passes for 248 yards and two touchdowns in Sunday's 35-14 win over the Browns. He added eight yards on his only carry. The veteran QB found Marquez Valdes-Scantling for another long touchdown, this one a 71-yard catch-and-run in the second quarter, and Carr also hit Juwan Johnson for a one-yard score in the fourth as the Saints put the game away. Carr has been efficient since returning from an oblique strain, posting a 66.3 percent completion rate, 5:0 TD:INT and 9.1 YPA in three games, and even with both Chris Olave (concussion) and Rashid Shaheed (knee) on IR he's stayed productive heading into New Orleans' Week 12 bye.
