Keith Mumphery: Hopes for return to playing field
Mumphery has been training in Dallas with the hope of resuming his NFL career, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Texans parted ways with Mumphery in June 2017 in the wake of an off-field allegation stemming from the wideout's time at Michigan State, a situation that ultimately culminated in Mumphery being cleared of any wrongdoing. Following a recent settlement that included an undisclosed financial sum to Mumphery from the university -- as well as the finding of fault against Mumphery being vacated -- the legal matter is now closed. The 26-year-old, who was a fifth-round draft pick of Houston in 2015, now hopes to resume his pro football career.

Keith Mumphery: Released by Texans
Mumphery was released by the Texans on Friday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
Mumphery served as a depth option at wideout last season for the Texans, notching 10 receptions for 69 yards in 11 games. At 24, he could definitely find his way onto another roster in time for training camp.

Texans' Keith Mumphery: Season-high three catches in Week 17 loss
Mumphery caught three of four targets for 23 yards in Houston's 24-17 loss to Tennessee in Week 17.
While Mumphery played an increased role over the final several weeks of the regular season, overall he was used much less than he was during his rookie 2015 season. He was replaced as the team's main returner on special teams, and opened the year on the inactive list for five of the first eight games. It was only when Braxton Miller (shoulder) and Jaelen Strong (ankle) were placed on IR did Mumphery get some opportunities. He's signed for another two years and has knowledge of the offense, so Mumphery is expected to return in 2017, but he'll be fifth on the depth chart if Miller and Strong are healthy.

Texans' Keith Mumphery: Season-high 42 snaps in Week 14
Mumphery caught both of his targets for 16 yards in Houston's 22-17 win over Indianapolis in Week 14.
Mumphery's stock increased in value a bit with both Braxton Miller (shoulder) and Jaelen Strong (ankle, IR) dealing with injuries, which led to a season-high 42 snaps Sunday. Unfortunately, he's stuck in one of the league's worst passing attacks -- Houston ranks 30th (190.0 yards per game) as of Monday -- which barely makes any of its receivers fantasy relevant. There's always a shot that the double-coverage thrown at DeAndre Hopkins opens up the field for Mumphery, but that assumes good quarterback play from Brock Osweiler, a commodity in low supply on Houston's offense this season.

Texans' Keith Mumphery: Fills in for injured Fuller, Strong
Mumphrey had a season-high 20 snaps on offense in the Texans' 24-21 win over the Jaguars in Week 10.
Houston was without two wideouts for the game as both Will Fuller (knee) and Jaelen Strong (ankle) were inactive. Despite the elevated playing time, Mumphery went un-targeted in the game. With Fuller hopeful to play Week 11 against the Raiders, Mumphery will slip back to fourth on the depth chart.

Texans' Keith Mumphery: Inactive for Week 1
Mumphery is inactive for the Texans' Week 1 matchup with the Bears, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
The Texans only have four receivers active for the opener, so we could see the team opt to give backup tight end Ryan Griffin some increased snaps whenever they want to get another pass- catcher on the field. Mumphery was able to claim a roster spot over veteran Cecil Shorts in training camp, but the 2015 fifth-round pick isn't expected to play a major role for the Texans in his second season in the league.

Texans' Keith Mumphery: Big game in preseason Week 4
Mumphery caught three passes for 83 yards, including a 64-yard touchdown reception in Houston's win over Dallas in preseason Week 4.
Mumphery's big game may have secured him the fifth and final wideout spot, ahead of Cecil Shorts, who played during the second half and had four catches for 27 yards.
