  • Chris Harris: Hangs up his cleats

Harris announced Tuesday that he is retiring from the NFL, Chris Tomasson of The Denver Gazette reports. Harris, 34, was out of the league last season after spending 2022 in New Orleans. He spent the first nine years of his career with the Broncos, earning four Pro Bowl nominations and one first-team All-Pro selection. Harris played 172 career games, making 145 starts, and recorded 22 interceptions, seven forced fumbles, six sacks, four fumble recoveries and four touchdowns.

  • Saints' Chris Harris: Activated for TNF

The Saints elevated Harris from the practice squad ahead of Thursday's game against the Cardinals. Harris will suit up for his third consecutive game with New Orleans, as he logged eight tackles and a pass defended over 56 defensive snaps in last week's loss to Cincinnati. The 33-year-old stepped in at strong safety in the Saints' banged-up secondary against the Bengals, as Marcus Maye slid over to a nickel role with cornerback Marshon Lattimore (abdomen) sidelined. Harris should see a similarly prominent role with Lattimore out and Paulson Adebo (knee) questionable heading into Thursday's tilt against Arizona.

  • Chris Harris: Signs with Saints' practice squad

New Orleans signed Harris to its practice squad Tuesday, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports. It's not immediately clear why the Saints saw fit to bring Harris aboard, seeing as Bradley Roby, Marshon Lattimore and Paulson Adebo are all healthy at corner for them. The former All-Pro could still have some quality slot reps left in the tank if he's elevated though.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Should play Sunday

Harris (undisclosed) is expected to be activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list in time to play Sunday against the Giants, Jeff Miller of the Los Angeles Times reports. Harris landed on the reserve list as an unvaccinated close contact after Keenan Allen tested positive for the virus Monday, and the cornerback is nearing the necessary five straight days with negative test results. Harris should be available for Week 14 if he continues to produce negative tests.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Deemed close contact

Chargers head coach Brandon Staley said Harris was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list as a close contact of receiver Keenan Allen, who tested positive for the virus Monday, ESPN.com reports. Staley's acknowledgement that Harris is a close contact suggests the cornerback is unvaccinated, as vaccinated players are placed on the list only as a result of testing positive. Per the NFL's protocols for unvaccinated close contacts, Harris will be required to test negative for five days before he's eligible to rejoin the Chargers. Assuming the five-day count began Monday when Allen tested positive, Harris would be able to join the Chargers on Saturday, which would then give him a chance to be available for the team's Week 14 game against the Giants on Sunday.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Placed on COVID-19 list

The Chargers placed Harris on the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday. It's not yet clear whether Harris has tested positive for the virus or if he's been deemed a close contact of an infected person, leaving his status for Sunday's game against the Giants up in the air. The veteran slot corner has tallied 26 tackles and an interception through nine appearances this season.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Interception in win

Harris recorded four tackles (four solo) and an interception in the Chargers' 41-22 win against the Bengals on Sunday. Harris intercepted his first pass of the 2021 NFL season. The veteran corner's production has been down this year, however, he was able to show flashes of his former self in this contest as he also deflected a pass. Harris and the Chargers defense get a struggling Giants offense at home next Sunday.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Will make return Sunday

Harris (shoulder) will play against the Browns on Sunday, Josina Anderson of USA Today reports. Harris has missed the three previous games with the shoulder injury, but he appears ready to make his return against Cleveland in Week 5. Michael Davis and Asante Samuel have drawn starts during the 32-year-old's absence, but Harris will likely retake his starting spot, which will slide one of the aforementioned corners into the nickel role.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Difficult first season with Bolts

Harris played nine games in the 2020 season, compiling 37 tackles, one interception, two passes defended and a half sack. For the second time in the past three seasons, Harris failed to play a full 16-game campaign after previously missing just one game through the first seven years of his career. The 31-year-old noticeably struggled in pass coverage early in the season and never really got much better after coming off a multi-month stint on IR in Week 12. Harris, who has a $2 million roster bonus which activates on the third day of the 2021 league year, could possibly be a cap casualty with a number of key players needing, or receiving, big-money deals over the past two seasons.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Lands on IR

The Chargers placed Harris (foot) on injured reserve Tuesday. Harris has a broken bone in his foot, per Adam Schefter of ESPN. He was already expected to miss four to six weeks, so the move to IR isn't surprising, but it's just another devastating hit to a Chargers' secondary that has already lost S Derwin James (knee) for the rest of the season. Michael Davis likely will start opposite Casey Hayward moving forward, while Desmond King should see an increase in usage.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Working in slot

Harris (leg) is healthy and working as the Chargers' primary slot corner, Daniel Popper of The Athletic reports. Harris working in the slot allows Casey Hayward and Michael Davis to man the outside in three-wide formations. Coming off a season with 56 tackles and six pass breakups, Harris should improve the Chargers' secondary immensely since Derwin James is entering the season healthy as well.

  • Chargers' Chris Harris: Joins Bolts

Harris agreed to a two-year contract with the Chargers on Wednesday, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports. The four-time Pro Bowler will move on from Denver after nine seasons with the Broncos, but he'll stick within the AFC West as he continues his career. The 30-year-old, who logged 56 tackles and one pick in 2019, should bolster an already formidable secondary that includes cornerbacks Casey Hayward and Desmond King and safety Derwin James. It's unclear whether Harris will occupy a spot on the outside or in the slot, as King also has the ability to play either cornerback position.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Wraps up 2019 with 56 tackles

Harris finished the 2019 season with 56 total tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and six passes defensed. Harris failed to nab multiple interceptions for the first time since his rookie campaign in 2011, and his six passes defensed also tied a career low. As trade rumors swirled, the veteran corner often played out of position on the outside in a new zone-heavy defense thanks to a cascade of injuries to Denver's secondary that took out Bryce Callahan and De'Vante Bausby, among others. Harris got beat deep a few more times than fans are accustomed to, but he remains a reliable defender capable of following opponents' top weapons. The question will be whether, at age 31 to start the 2020 season, the Broncos will pay him like a top-flight corner. If not, and a veteran-hungry team decides to break the bank, Harris may have played his final game in orange and blue.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Picks off Mariota

Harris had four total tackles, a forced fumble, an interception and two passes defended during Sunday's 16-0 win over Tennessee. Marcus Mariota had yet to throw a pick when, near midfield and seeking to strike before halftime, he took a shot down the middle of the field and was picked by Harris for the veteran corner's first interception of the season. Harris isn't getting much action with his All-Pro status and so much inexperience opposite him in Denver's depleted secondary, but he has done well in limiting opponents' top targets this season. Next up Thursday is a test against Kansas City's high-flying attack.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Inks coveted new deal

Harris agreed to sign a one-year contract adjustment for 2019 worth $12.05 million with the Broncos on Tuesday, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports. Harris has been yearning for a new deal for next season or a trade, and he finally got his wish. Even though he had been asking for a reported $15 million, he's still set to receive about a $3 million raise in 2019. He will receive a total of $1.25 million in bonuses for showing up to offseason work, which could've helped his willingness to sign for less. Harris has made the Pro Bowl in four of the last five seasons, and has nabbed 19 interceptions in his illustrious career. The deal will give the 29-year-old not only a pay raise, but the opportunity to hit the open market following the 2019 season.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Skipping voluntary work

Harris isn't present Tuesday for the start of Denver's voluntary offseason program, Mike Klis of 9News Denver reports. It's believed Harris is sending a message of dissatisfaction with his contract, which has one season and $7.9 million remaining. There's no doubt the deal has become a huge bargain, but the Broncos may be hesitant to pay top-of-the-market money on an extension for a cornerback who will turn 30 in June. General manager John Elway said he wants to wait until after the 2019 NFL Draft to open discussions on an extension for his top cornerbacks. The recent signing of slot corner Bryce Callahan suggests Harris will spend more time lined up outside in 2019, assuming he's still with the Broncos come Week 1.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Lands on IR

Harris (lower leg) was placed on injured reserve Wednesday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Denver Post reports. Harris was initially targeting a Week 17 return after suffering a broken leg during a Dec. 2 win over the Bengals, but his limited progress since that time prompted the Broncos to shut him down for good. The star slot cornerback will now turn his attention toward getting healthy for the 2019 season.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Not expected to return this season

Harris (leg) is unlikely to return this season, Troy Renck of Denver 7 News reports. Harris was hoping to play in Week 17, but the team has no need to rush him back after being eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to the Browns on Sunday. He'll look to return at full strength for the 2019 season.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Not expected to need surgery

Harris (lower leg) said that he won't undergo surgery after suffering a fractured fibula during Sunday's 24-10 win over the Bengals, Nicki Jhabvala of The Athletic reports. Coach Vance Joseph said Sunday that he's unsure whether Harris' injury will require surgery, according to Nicki Jhabvala. It appears that Harris has a legitimate shot of avoiding injured reserve if the Broncos are able to make a playoff push and extend their season.

  • Broncos' Chris Harris: Runs INT back for six

Harris made six tackles (five solo) and a pick-six in Thursday's 45-10 win over the Cardinals. It was Harris' first pick of the season and his first pick-six since 2015. He'll look to keep the turnover train chugging in Week 8 against the Chiefs' Patrick Mahomes, who has thrown four picks in the last two games.
