  • Tra Carson: Cut loose after draft

The Lions cut Carson on Monday, Tim Twentyman of the Lions' official site reports.

Carson spent time with the Lions and Packers in 2019, even making a surprise start Week 8 and taking 12 carries for 34 yards. He then suffered a hamstring injury, which led to the Lions placing him on IR and then cutting him, only to re-sign him in January. The team is letting Carson go again after using second- and fifth-round draft picks on running backs D'Andre Swift and Jason Huntley.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Secures deal with Detroit

Carson signed a reserve/future contract with the Lions on Tuesday.

Carson spent a few weeks in Detroit in the middle of the season, but he went down with a hamstring injury, landed on injured reserve and was subsequently released in early November. The 27-year-old finished 2019 with 18 carries for 48 yards and four receptions for 18 yards in three games between the Packers and Lions.

  • Tra Carson: Gets tryout with Detroit

Carson worked out for the Lions recently, Adam Caplan of SiriusXM Radio reports.

There has been no report that Carson reached a deal with the club as of yet, but at least he is seemingly healthy. The 27-year-old has seen time on both the Packers' and Lions' active rosters this season.

  • Tra Carson: Cut loose by Lions

The Lions released Carson (hamstring) from injured reserve Friday.

Carson got an unexpected start Week 8 against the Giants, taking 12 carries for 34 yards in a 31-26 victory. He then was listed on the Week 9 injury report, ultimately being sent to IR last Saturday. Carson could draw some interest as a back-of-roster depth option if/when he gets healthy. Meanwhile, the Lions have Ty Johnson, J.D. McKissic and Paul Perkins in their backfield.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Lands on injured reserve

Carson (hamstring) was placed on injured reserve Saturday.

This comes as a major surprise considering Carson was added to the injury report midweek with a hamstring injury. The Lions recalled Paul Perkins from the practice squad in a corresponding move, but this opens the door for both Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic to receive the bulk of the backfield workload, a role that was supposedly expected of the duo until Carson surprisingly stepped in as the starting running back last week against the Giants.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Slated to practice Friday

Carson (hamstring) will take part in practice Friday, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Carson was slowed by a hamstring injury Thursday, but coach Matt Patricia told reporters that Carson is day-to-day and will be able to get some work in Friday. Carson's injury leaves his Week 9 status up in the air, but his ability to practice in some fashion Friday provides reason to believe he'll ultimately gain clearance to play.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Questionable with hamstring injury

Carson (hamstring) is listed as questionable for Sunday's game in Oakland, Michael Rothstein of ESPN.com reports.

Carson was added to the injury report Thursday as a limited participant and logged another limited session Friday. He got a surprise start in last week's 31-26 win over the Giants, taking 12 carries for 34 yards while playing 31 percent of snaps on offense. A Week 9 absence would leave more work for Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic, while Paul Perkins was re-signed to the practice squad Friday, perhaps implying some level of concern with Carson's health. Final word on Carson's status may not come until the Lions release their inactive list approximately 90 minutes before Sunday's 4:05 p.m. ET kickoff.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Dealing with hamstring issue

Carson was a limited participant in Thursday's practice due to a sore hamstring, Kyle Meinke of MLive.com reports.

Carson wasn't included on the Lions' initial Week 9 injury report released Wednesday, so he may have picked up the hamstring issue at some point during Thursday's session. He'll have one more practice to prove his health in advance of Sunday's game against the Raiders, but if he can't play this weekend, Ty Johnson and J.D. McKissic will be the last healthy backs left standing on the team's 53-man roster. Carson led the Lions with 12 carries in a Week 8 win over the Giants, but he only managed 34 yards (2.8 average) and saw six fewer snaps than Johnson.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Leads team in carries

Carson carried 12 times for 34 yards during Sunday's 31-26 win over the Giants.

In the absence of Kerryon Johnson (knee), Carson stepped up to lead the team in carries. Ty Johnson, Paul Perkins, and J.D. McKissic combined for 28 yards on 11 carries, leaving plenty to be desired from the running game in a favorable matchup. With Johnson slated to miss most of the remaining regular-season action, the team should continue to deploy a committee out of the backfield, though they also seem likely to lean even more on the passing game to move the ball. Carson could very well lead the team in carries in next week's road game against the Raiders, but a tough matchup could limit his usage.

  • Lions' Tra Carson: Lands in Detroit

The Lions claimed Carson off waivers Thursday, Field Yates of ESPN reports.

Carson was let go by the Packers on Wednesday, and he now lands with a division rival. The Lions waived Paul Perkins to make room for Carson on the 53-man roster, paving the way for him to serve as the team's No. 4 running back behind Kerryon Johnson, J.D. McKissic and Ty Johnson.

  • Tra Carson: Let go by Green Bay

The Packers cut Carson on Wednesday.

Carson's only offensive snaps with the Packers came Week 5 against Dallas, when he rushed six times for 14 yards and caught all four of his targets for 18 yards. Ryan Grant will now replace Carson on Green Bay's 53-man roster. His release leaves rookie sixth-round pick Dexter Williams as the lone reserve option at running back behind starters Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams.

  • Packers' Tra Carson: No snaps on offense

Carson did not play a snap on offense in Monday's victory over the Lions.

Carson served as the backup running back and got 10 touches in Week 5 with fellow back Jamaal Williams out with a concussion, but he was a non-factor in Week 6 with Williams back in action. The Packers have used only two halfbacks in each game this season, so expect Carson to remain in a depth-only role as long as Williams and Aaron Jones are healthy.

  • Packers' Tra Carson: Serves as backup running back

Carson had six carries for 14 yards and four receptions for 18 yards in Sunday's victory over the Cowboys.

With fellow running back Jamaal Williams (concussion) sidelined in Week 5, the Packers brought up Carson from the practice squad, and he operated as the backup behind top running back Aaron Jones. Carson did not accumulate much yardage, but he did see a fair number of opportunities, handling 10 touches while playing 24 of a possible 74 snaps. Carson does not possess much upside as a fourth-year player who just received his first career touches, but he is firmly ahead of Dexter Williams on the Packers' depth chart, and would serve as the team's No. 2 back again in Week 6 should Jamaal Williams miss another game.

  • Packers' Tra Carson: Active Sunday

Carson is listed as active Sunday at Dallas.

With Jamaal Williams sidelined due to a concussion, Carson and not Dexter Williams will be the direct backup to Aaron Jones. Carson has a good shot to get his first snaps of the season.
