  • Packers' Jacob Schum: Reverts to injured reserve

Schum (back) cleared waivers and reverted to the Packers' injured reserve.

Schum had been dealing with a back injury for weeks and was waived Thursday. In his absence, Justin Vogel will take over as the top punter in Green Bay, but the Packers could always bring in someone else for competition.

  • Jacob Schum: Waived by Packers

Schum (back) was waived with an injury designation by Green Bay on Thursday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

Schum suffered a back injury two weeks ago that was thought to be minor at the time but may be more serious than initially thought. He will likely revert to the Packers' injured reserve if he isn't claimed off waivers.

  • Packers' Jacob Schum: Injures back, held out of practice

Schum did not practice Tuesday due to a minor back injury, ESPN's Rob Demovsky reports.

Schum is expected to return to his punting duties sooner than later. As it stands right now, he'll be competing for the starting punter job along with rookie Justin Vogel leading up to the start of the season.

  • Packers' Jacob Schum: Signs exclusive rights contract

Schum signed his exclusive rights free agent contract with the Packers on Wednesday, Rob Demovsky of ESPN reports.

In his second full year in the NFL, and first with the Packers, Schum averaged 43.2 yards per punt, with a long of 65 yards, and had 19 punts downed inside the 20-yard line, all of which were career highs. It's unclear if the Packers will bring in any competition for Schum in the offseason or training camp, or if he'll simply be given the job in 2017.
