Texans' Derek Barnett: Good to go Week 8
Barnett (ankle) doesn't carry an injury designation into Sunday's game against the 49ers.

Texans' Derek Barnett: Limited by ankle injury
Barnett was a limited participant in Wednesday's practice due to an ankle injury.
Barnett logged 27 tackles (21 on defense, six on special teams) without recording a tackle during the Texans' 27-19 loss to the Seahawks on Monday. It appears he picked up an ankle injury in the process, and his practice participation over the next two days will shed light on his chances of playing against the 49ers on Sunday. The 2017 first-rounder has just three tackles (one solo) through six regular-season games.

Texans' Derek Barnett: Activated from PUP list
Barnett (undisclosed) was activated from the active/PUP list Monday, per the NFL's official transaction log.
Barnett passed his physical Monday, ultimately returning to practice for the first time since the beginning of training camp. Head coach DeMeco Ryans explained it'll take time for the veteran to get back to game shape, but Barnett will have nearly four weeks to do so before a Week 1 matchup versus the Rams on Sept. 7.

Texans' Derek Barnett: Opens training camp on PUP list
Barnett (undisclosed) was placed on the active/PUP list by the Texans on Wednesday.
Barnett will open camp on the sidelines due to an undisclosed injury, but he'll be eligible to return to practice and play at any point in the preseason. The linebacker re-signed with the Texans in the offseason and once healthy, he'll operate as a solid depth option on the defensive line.

Texans' Derek Barnett: Remaining in Houston
Barnett is slated to re-sign with the Texans on a one-year, $5 million contract, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
Barnett suited up for 16 regular-season games with Houston in 2024, in which span he racked up 26 tackles (15 solo), including 5.0 sacks, plus two forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries. He also scored on a fumble return Week 11. After having found success as a rotational playmaker behind Will Anderson and Danielle Hunter, Barnett's decision to run it back with the Texans for 2025 seems sensible for both sides.
